help plan a drive through some states please

On November 20th I will be flying into Spokane Washington to pick up a 2010 v50R. I might have to drive up to Sandpoint Idaho.

Either way I will be going from the spokane/sandpoint area driving to Fort Collins Colorado. I hope to leave around noon on a Friday. It is then a ~16 hour drive to Fort Collins to nap at a friends before driving back to Kansas city the next day.

At first I was thinking about driving through Yellowstone, but I quickly learned how early you get snow up there. I was told the park closed November 2nd.

I am wanting a good scenic drive. It can not add to much time though. ie: Don't want to be stuck on a two lane road behind a motor home going 20mph up a hill. I suppose I am contradicting myself a little here.

A few things to keep in mind. It will get dark around 6pm, so only the first 6 hours of my trip will I be able to see much So a few hours after hitting Butte it will be getting dark.

What are the chances I will hit a lot of snow? Should I stick to large highways to keep it safe? I know you can't predict the weather, but I don't want to get stuck! The car will be coming with an extra set of wheels/studded tires so I guess in an emergency I can swap tires out, but golly that would be scary if I felt I needed studded tires on this trip.

If I leave from Spokane I will take 90 east to to Butte.

From Butte continue on 90 East to 90 south to 25 south to Ft. Collins

or

From Butte to Columbus, south on 421 to 212 to south 310 to so on and so forth. Several options..... on to Casper and 25 south to Fort Collins

or

From Butte to 15 south to 80 East
