Stumped

After replacing my water pump my car didn't start. The guy helping me said when he tightened the clutch fan, he may have moved the crank. The car tries to start but it seems the timing is off. I am getting a timing light to check but upon checking the crank angle sensor, I have NO idea how to remove the crank angle sensor lock nut? Is it a plastic cover over the nut or how do i remove it??

That is a plastic typed wing nut that you to remove to get at the 10mm nut on a stud.just loosen it up(unthread it like a cap) and you'll see the 10mm nut.

Why the hell he removed the Crank angle sensor to do a Water pump tells me to NOT let that guy touch your car ..Again.
Now in order to get the pump on and off you must remove the pulleys on the main hub(lowest pulley assembly..main assembly)
Question: VITAL..ask him if he had a hard time putting the Main pulley back on as the holes for the pulley dictate that the Pulley can only go on ONE WAY..the correct way.
This is so that the pulley doesn't lose it's orientation to the hub and screw up the timing marks. This in turn would make you think that the marks are off..(well they WOULD BE if you put the pulley on forcibly).

By the way I am assuming this car is a series 4 or 5??
It's nice to have info.,so if you left anything out now is the time to spill the beans.

Why do you need to remove the CAS plastic nut to check the timing?

Did ur butcher remove the CAS when he changed the water pump? If so, as said above, verify that he didnt destroy your crank pulley when he reinstalled it, and the timing is indeed off, do this.

PS, you should be able to pry that plastic nut off with a screwdriver, but dont start messing with the timing until youre sure the CAS is off.

The crank pully was moved not the CAS REMOVED. The question turned out to be a plastic cover cap.

But if the pulley was put on Forcibly then now the pulley will ft any way at all.
90 degrees out,180 out,270?..who knows.
You need to establish if the pulley is on correctly and the stock holes lined up easily.
That would tell you that the pulley is on correctly and you can proceed to dial in the timing by moving the CAS while it is installed on the engine.
If you loosen the nut It will turn back and forth to bring the timing to within stock setting.

..and when you stated he moved the crank I thought Crank angle Sensor..(sorry..I should be flogged..yes I should...and covered in Maple Syrup too...!)

Here's what I'm saying. OP states crank pully was removed. OP states that timing may be off. Why would removing the pulley alone change the timing? Sure the marks would be off but it shouldn't affect timing.

You said "when he was tightening the fan pulley, he said he may have moved the crank". This led me to believe he turned the crank with The CAS out you reinstalled it at the incorrect position.
