s5 auto engine in manual 1989 rx7
Hey guys,
I came upon a s5 engine that was automatic and I need to convert it to work with my manual tranny 89 GTUs. What do I need to do to make it work in the car?

the EASY way?..slap on a light flywheel.Unbolt the flexplate from the rear counterweight and put the flywheel on.
BUT you will need to get a clutch Pedal setup and whatnot, clutch master,Lines to the Slave on the trans...a little re-wiring.
You can find more on this is if you search a little further in the Sec GEN Specific section.

Are you still waiting on a response or did you find the answer you wanted? The cheap way is remove the 54mm nut and take out the counterweight and flex plate, and replace with your flywheel and clutch. Then use your electronics to wire up the engine. The easier way is to buy a lightweight flywheel take out the 6 flex plate nuts and replace flexplate with your lightweight flywheel. Everything else should mostly plug up like you took your 5speed motor out.

I would suggest resurfacing your flywheel and buying a new clutch, and replacing your rear main seal. I really don't like my light flywheel for daily driving but it makes the car accelerate quicker

The flipping( for lack of another f word) car will jerk while cruising slow in a parking lot. Dead stop to slow roll is a PITA!!! The most common problem most have that I solved is while depressing the clutch the revs fall immediately and faster. I fixed that by raising my deceleration idle to 2,000rpm to help stay in boost. Now if I want to go fast, that damn thing shifts and flies and takes off from a dead stop smooth as silk!

BTW. The easier more expensive way, the 54mm nut and counterweight stay on the motor and don't/won't need to be removed. With the 6 bolts out and heavy tapping with a soft mallet the flexplate falls off. Remember to reuse that metal shim that fell off that you didn't notice that was BEHIND the flexplate as it will go behind your lightweight flywheel or you'll do like I almost did and the bolts for the flywheel will lock the flywheel against the motor. That voice in my head I call God told meto see how the flywheel turns and when it didn't move I saw the shim in front of my face on the ground. Also my flywheel came with the wrong bolts so a trip to ace hardware was needed for grade 8 bolts. Whatever they sent me was .25 to large.
