RX7 Steering Column (shaft) Movement

This is a low-mileage '84 and some time ago I noticed that if you put both hands on wheel, and gently but firmly pull upward, the wheel pulls up about 3/4" (not measured). At the same time, this movement rides over the cancelling part of the signals - until wheel is pushed down again. Don't know what caused this and I suspect it has something to do with shaft? I know (the shaft) is solid into the gearbox but how is it secured? Yes, likely a dumb question but I need to be 'steered' into the right direction - before removing related parts - for first time. Thanks.

Pretty sure it has something to do with a bushing that is in the column itself.
There should be some info in 1st Gen Specific on that.

welcome to the board.

2 out of my 4 FBs did that. it's an annoyance. however, while disheartening when it first happens to you, it's actually designed to do that ... in the event of a crash.

you can leave it or you can fix it.
