Exclamation newbie & boost issues

Hey all,

I have recently purchased a fresh Japanese import fd3 type R.

My issue is that when cold it runs fine boosts fine ect,

I have an oil temp gauge fitted and when vehicle reaches 75 degrees the first turbo will stop working, it wont boost till 4500 upon which it will boost fine again.

now im told it will be a solenoid but I have not found much helping me which one it is,
I have read through the archives and found a few things that may help.

hopefully I have attached them correctly.

now there are two green solenoids (pink & green) (pre control and wastegate control ? )
in the vacuum diagram it show them both going to the first turbo.

I have tested these both hot and cold and they read around 34.5
I believe I read somewhere between 37-41 ohms cold and up to 45 ohms hot is correct ohms for functioning solenoids.

so would I be right to believe that these may be inop.? and most likely my problem.
I just don't want to go ordering around $350 of parts if its not going to fix the problem,

the other pic hopefully attached is of the so called "rats nest" if anyone has experienced the same problem im having and it was one of them can you please pinpoint the one you had trouble with,

im just hoping for constructive criticism and if im on the right track, if the specs I have are right the these solenoids and if anyone has had this problem.

thanks in advance for help and imput.

Dave

You will notice this is called the NEW members section.
It is not the 3rd GEN specific Section which you should,by rights, be posting questions like this in,as that section is more geared to the specifics of your car.
The Rules that you should have read will help you gain posts to enter that exact section.
By the way,BUMPS are not allowed here as ALL questions are just as equal as the next one is,so Showing frustration to others by Bumping your post with "204 and no answer" will get your thread WIPED.
My suggestion is to grab yourself a nice hot cup of coffee and research the threads that are already posted on this Forum and see if anything posted is similar to what problem you are having.

I just posted a WTB thread that has 150 views..I still need my part!

Thanks man,
STYX (MOD)

From what I can see your plugs look like they are from a Series 7 or Series 8 ( do you have a black plastic box ? ) above a link that helped me a lot . In that thread there is a very useful 22 mob word document link . Check it out it helped me a lot . Best advice from experience . Start by replacing the vac hoses Check 1 way check valves ( 2 are in the black box ) Check vacuum and pressure tanks

I read through your post again , it sounds more like a vaccuum problem to me . My first turbo was also not boosting for me it was a faulty charge control solenoid . If your second turbo works properly I doubt it's wastegate or precontrol solenoids . Check the charge control solenoid ( maybe swap it arround with something useless like the double throttle solenoid and check the one way check valves as well as the vac lines and your vaccuum plastic tank ( the one behind the alternator .

Hi, since posting i have pulled apart my rx7, i got to the black box and tested all solenoids cold.
The charge control was infact out of range reading 128 amps where the rest were 41.

I have sent it away to get cleaned and the solenoid replaced as I hear they are quite tricky to get the box apart, and I wasn't going to risk it as over is Aus its $700-$1100 for a new one.

While its all apart I've redone all the vac lines with turbosmart silicon hose.

I did break one of the nipples off the pre control solenoid so now tracking a new one down.

All well and good i should be driving again this weekend. 😊

Glad I could help just make Shure you hook up the wastegate and pre control solenoid electrically correct up when you replace them . I swapped mine ( thought logic would imply the longer harness goes to the pre control solenoid as it's the furthest out but that wasn't the case ) what year model is your car ? If you need the ECU pin out to measure I have the pin out for 1996-1999 series 7 (pic attached )
