New Problem... Think it might be the fuel pump? 82 rx7
Alright so i had a starter problem- FIXED, then a fuse problem- FIXED, now i cant get the engine to start up and stay on. I think it might not be getting fuel, i changed the fuel filter and put some premium gas in. when i used some ignition fluid i got it too start up for like 2-3 seconds but then it died. Anyone know what this could be? or a way to find out what could be wrong?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Pull the fuel line off at the carb. Place it in a bottle. Crank car like you're trying to start it. Got fuel flowing into the bottle?
If not, then check the relay, then the pump (in that order. Bad relay is most likely)

You should look at Foxed.ca for the Service manuals Mike.
I use them all the time.
If you had a 2nd gen I would be all over your questions like Kanye on a Kardashian.

problem fixed! thanks alot guys
But know i think it may be pumping too much? the barrels of the intake and choke keep getting filled/flooded with fuel. Alot the fuel is like the color of redbull? its getting cleaner and clearer but still really darkish yellow... is that a rusted tank? or old fuel?

Pump is only supposed to be at a certain psi.(like 6,I think)
it allows the fuel into the bowl by the needle valve. When the bowl fills, the float is supposed to shut the needle valve.so no more gas enters the bowl. When the bowl starts to drain from Use then the needle valve opens and gas goes into the bowl again.(never ending cycle)
If the needle valve is under too much pressure then it remains open, the float is stuck up top and the gas will flow out into the engine.

The pump is probably fine, but your float needles might be sticking. Try banging on the top of the carb with something that won't damage it. Sometimes you can "shake" them loose. Otherwise you will have to pull the top half of the carb off and clean them up.
Edit: I just saw in your other thread that you replaced the pump with something "totally different". What did you put in there? You need a low pressure/high volume pump...

if the secondarys are leaking i would suspect a serious vacuum leak. had one of my block off plates come loose and it kept on trickling in and would be a PAIN to restart. only the drivers side should be dripping fuel when idling. if thats what you mean by "filling up the barrels" which i assume it is.
on a side note you really need another filter up front that you can keep an eye on cause if the gas is nasty up top imagine what the filter looks like underneath that you cant see. you were better off draining it and starting over. you may ruin the carb and have to rebuild it which yous should do anyway.
and why did you put in premium gas? or did you mean premium as in like new instead of redbull? they run on regular only turbos need the higher octane
what brand or part # pump? you could have one thats too strong..

the barrels on the right are the ones im talking about those are the secondary's, they should only drip in gas under high load. they should not be leaking at all while idling. if they are you either A: have to much PSI from the fuel pump, or B: a massive vaccum leak
as far as the pump in concerned check the box for the part number, what brand and part # it is, is important. the receipt wont tell you squat.

That pump is rated at 4 psi. That seems a bit low to me. But did you leave the in line filter attached as it came in the box? It doesn't draw enough pressure like that you have to put a longer hose between the filter and pump. I've been there before. I run a carter pump not sure of what # but. It should be fine.

yeah you do, i had the same problem with mine before it came like that. just goto an auto parts store and buy a ft of hose for 30 cents. it oly needs to be like 4-5 inches. as long as its longer that how it is now.
how does it run when it is running? will it stay running? is it rough?

okay cool, i can do that np. Thanks
And yeah it runs really rough, but i think thats in part to the old gas (which has been changed out) and because we had to "unsieze" the engine with penetrating oil. lots of smoke but i was told that is to be expected.
if this fixes the fuel problem i will be moving on too the clutch/transmission problem that i have no idea about lol.

In my life I have forgotten a few things. One thing i do remember is that a stock first gen fuel pump is rated at 3.5 psi. and 6 psi is too much. You may need a fuel preasure regulator
