New to the fd game
Hey guys
So I just picked up a 94 rx7 the other day. Love it, have wanted one of these for the longest time. It runs smooth, and the current mods on it are fmic (unsure of brand), hks bov, hks catback, greddy turbo timer, boost gauge, apexi intakes. I've read a little bit about these cars trying to find a good reliable upgrade path.
I'm thinking the first things I will buy will be a blitz fmic and koyo n-flo radiator then a power fc. Is this a good idea or am I missing something?
Also where is a good place to order parts for these cars?
The oil pan needs to be replaced as well, any ideas on a good place to get one?

I would probably put a downpipe and power FC ahead of the FMIC.
Taking care of cooling is a real important early upgrade.
A stock oil pan should be fine. A bit of a pain to replace as you have to lift the engine.
But, before too many mods...how is the maintenance on the car?
Fresh fluids all around is always good with a 'new' car. Are all the hoses in great shape?
What do you want to do with the car?
Daily driver, track days, or something in between?

It's not going to be a daily driver, but it's also not just going to spend all of its time in the garage. Kind of an in between street car. I need to do all the fluids, haven't done that but want to fix the oil issue. I spoke to the previous owner and he said it just needs to be resealed. I really want to take of all of the cooling first, reading through the forums it seems like gauges and cooling should be first.
I've been looking at v mount kits. Is that a good way to go for now?
I want to eventually go single turbo but that won't be for a while

if you go with the power fc then you have the option to use the commander to monitor vitals in place of a bunch of gauges cluttering your dash. as far as ordering parts, any of the vendors here will do right by you as well as buying used parts in the for sale section. re-sealing the oil pan with the engine in the car can be a big job since you either have to lift the engine haddavette said or drop the subframe. when you do the oil pan, make sure to buy the brace from banzai and upgrade your motor mounts to 2 steel arms if you dont already have it and get a new set from IRP.
your modding direction should be focused on reliability and cooling upgrades THEN go fast parts. proper cooling is what helps these cars last....
also, a nice vmount set up would be the most ideal situation to be in but can get expensive. the vmount set up is the ultimate in cooling and performance...

In addition, spark plugs and fuel filter need to be replaced if they haven't been for a long time or the status is unknown. Have injectors ever been serviced? If no or not sure they need to be taken out and sent for cleaning (there are few online places like "rc engineering" or "injector rehab" you can have a look at). If the oil pan is leaking and needs resealed it's a good idea to use an oil pan brace such as banzai racing oil pan brace.
To my knowledge v-mount provides best cooling but for a non-track car you wouldn't really need it, an fmic is enough.
Have a look at 3rd gen FAQ section, there're lots of useful information for starters (and not only).

I was just looking at the adaptronic and may decide to go with that instead. But first got to get the oil pan fixed and will get the brace from banzai and a new radiator.
On my car the radiator is not mounted like a traditional radiator on every other car, it's more towards the bottom of the engine bay and on an angle, is this the stock setup?

Whoa... hold on. The po did a front mount and left the radiator in the stock position? Factory radiator placement is front of the car towards the bottom at an angle like this \ except more extreme. Theres still hope for your car to go v mount. The rotary works v mount radiator is priced great and is pretty easy to install. You can also get their b mount intercooler and be done with it. Selling your front mount will help recoup costs of buying it if thats something youre concerned about. Post some pictures of your car and engine bay

Think I'm just going to go with the odyssey pc680, found that and the mounting bracket online for not a bad price and that will probably be the first thing I do. Didn't realize how many of these cars get sold without a tie down, I didn't even check that when I was looking at it
