need some ideas on how to approach this problem.

I just recently bought an 1987 fc rx7 w/ s5t2 and I'm pretty sure it was swapped in if I'm not mistaking. The Car has sat for about ten years at a shop in los angeles and the previous owner just didn't have time for it any more so he was willing to sell for a really good price (way lower than what its really worth for the amount of work put in). Anyways I drove it back to San Diego from Los Angeles, just about 100 miles of travel, and it seemed to run just fine, engine turns on every time, no bogging of any kind and boost kicks right when I hit 4000rpm, the things a beast. so I decided it was just about time for some regular maintenance after ten years of sitting around so I decided to do the coolant first. since the coolant smelled like vomit, I got some radiator cleaner to clean out the system and ran that with water for about 30 minutes after flushing out the ol' vomit coolant. after that I flushed out the cleaner and topped it off with 5050 prestone coolant. after that, called it a day and slept on that. the very next day I try to start the fc and that's where the problem is. The car would start and runs for 2 -3 seconds and then it would shut off. I kept repeating for about ten minutes but no luck. it seems like there is some kind of sensors killing the power to the fuel pump and I just don't know where and what to look for in the car that's causing this. any insight would help.. I also own an fb and all the wrongs on that car I pretty much can handle but the fc is another ball game with more wiring, connectors and censors. I had a battery tackle onto the distributer while drifting the fb and that thing was still running, haha good times.

If the Air Flow Meter (AFM) is not plugged in the car will just start and die..over and over ..Until you plug it in.

The thing about that is I'm not sure if it has one. Here's a quick photo of what the engine is running.

But, its a s5 engine, did they swap the wireing also? Along with the ecu? I find it hard to believe you drove it 100 miles without the AFM hooked up, and now all of a sudden it won't stay running. Does it have an aftermarket ECU? Also, the car sat for 10 years, its surprising it started up and drove fine, but i'm sure the sock and/or fuel filter is probably plugged now with fresh gas and a long drive

Something just doesn't add up

The ecu is an aftermarket by haltech e8. The wiring I think is swapped over too because when I changed the alternator, I used an s4 alt and the plug in on it was the same because it looked like it was cut from s4 wires and crimped on to the new wiring to fit the s5 engine I'm thinking. I did some searching and found out that e8 ecu uses a Windows xp to do tuning with so I got a Windows 10 laptop and I'm gonna try to get into it using oracle virtual pc . Wish me luck on that one haha

I would say for sure fuel related then. With an aftermarket ecu, it is probably running off a MAP sensor instead of a MAF (or AFM). If that tune drove you 100 miles, than it isn't the problem. I would start out with checking fuel pressure after the FPR (i'm guessing it has an aftermarket one) and if its low, start out by replacing the fuel filter, check it again, and if its still low, be looking at the pump and sock. I wouldn't be surprised if the tank is nasty inside it

Also, whatever information about the car you know, you gotta let us know, ECU is a prime example, the only reason i guessed it had an aftermarket one is because of all the shiney aftermarket parts under the hood you showed

Yeah you're right, like I said there is a whole lot of work put into it that I'm not sure of. But I'll post up more details on aftermarket Stuff as I look around the car and I'll provide pictures with them so u guys can get an idea of what I got going on. I wish I knew a lot more about the parts that are on them. I just jumped to the offer and bought it as is.

After sitting for 10 years the fuel system is trashed. Replace the injectors, flush out the whole system, clean tank, replace all filters.

The Haltech like most ECUs kills the pump if the engine is not running.

You can download the software from the Haltech website and plug a laptop into the ECU to see exactly what it is doing.

But odds are, you have a bad injector.
