PA Need some advice

Hi everyone! I will becoming a new owner of a Mazda rx 7 1987 . It doesn't have turbo in it . The car has been sitting in a heated garage for 8 years now and is in excellent condition new battery new hoses and belts .. The original owner just did all this and tried to start it with old gas in it . It tries to start but won't turn over .. I just want to know if I empty the tank out change the fuel filter should that be good enough to get it started ? Or is there more I should do .. I really think it's the gas I'm picking the car up this week to bring to my home and start working on it .. If anyone can help with any information it would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks a lot

Had it ever got started during those 8 years period? Also how old is the "old" gas in the tank, like 8 years old? The reason it didn't start could be quite few things e.g. no spark, loss of compression(ie bad engine) etc.

those are good places to start.

The gas can be drained by a 14mm nut under the passenger side on the bottom of the gas tank.
NOW there is a Fuel "sock" on the pump inside the tank and that by rights should be addressed/replaced.
If you lift the rear hatch carpet, undo 4 phillips screws on the driver's side silver plate and that gives you access to the top of the tank.
8 phillips screws await you to take the sender assembly off.
I assume it should be easy as the car sat inside..(you would be good to spray some penetrant on the screws to soak them and make taking the unit off easier)

Thanks guys . The car is in excellent shape . Can a motor just go bad from sitting . The original owners said it ran like a champ before they parked it and that all belts hose were replaced . I popped the hood everything still looks like it's in excellent shape the car was well taken care of . I will be heading out this weekend to try and get it started new spark plug fuel filter and fuel pump .. For starters . Again thanks for the help

Get new fuel and a fuel pump sock, and while your tinkering with that, pour some MMO into the plug holes and roll the motor over a few times, it will help loosen up carbon and better your chances to free up the deals to start it
