Best bet is to check out the Canadian Forum for recommendations.

It's getting harder and harder to find 12A parts, so hopefully you don't need rotor housings.

There's a good one i went to for lapping, housing refurbished. Its called Derwin Tuning in Terrebonne, Quebec. His name is JP, he speaks english. He is a rotary mechanic. Only 7's and 8's go there. Find him on Facebook all the info and builds are there. His web site is under construction. Only one in Quebec that I know of.

Did he re-nitride the irons after lapping? If not, lapping removes the nitriding and results in soft irons that wear out 10x faster than the originals. Better not to lap in almost every case.

Cylinders in piston engines can be re-plated, I would love to know if it is possible to have rotor housings re-plated.

I got my plates lapped, turned out really nice, even where the water seals sit it was alot larger on my engine(ex:water seal 5mm and extra room on each side was 2mm), i thought it was scrap but it got filled in and looked brand new, I didn' even want to put the engine back together it was so nice
Re-plated would be something different though, check out rotaryengine.com | Rotary Engine Specialists | Mazda Performance | RX7 Specialties. There's diamond lapping, normal lapping, grinding, and sonic cleaning services. Grinding is i thing the closest to re-plating. Search around i am sure you'll find something. Good luck- I heard of it though.

Sorry i just re-read your question, replated, I don't think so but refurbished, YES. Housings are machined as little as possible to keep the chrome on the housings so its just to make it flat. If you have a bumpy surface and put brand new apex seals in, it bounces around and is really not good(compression). If you go on facebook- Derwin Tuning you can see some videos and cars he worked on. It's 1/4 of the price of new housings and is in a state"like brand new". If your housings have big groves in them- there's a limit for that.

^^^^^ I remember when REC use to out source to JHB for cermet coating. JHB use to offer different stages of there coating and it was recommended to use ceramic seals with cermet X coated rotor housing so the coating will last. Back when this process was still relatively new there were a lot of picture floating around with the coating flaked off when used with heavy seals. The diamond lapping mentioned above is the processed used for lapping side housings that have been coated in cermet since regular lapping compound will not cut thru it. I remember talking to Adam and he stated that he had a good stock of cermet coated housings in stock since a lot of people were steering clear away from them. Not sure if this is the case now. And if I remember correctly don't quote me on this but even he wasn't a big fan of them? At least on the rotor housings.

I have heard of a LOT of people with Cermet coatings that have failed.

By re-nitriding, I am referring to the irons. If they are not re-nitrided after lapping, they will wear out 10x faster than they did from the factory.

good to know
I got my irons lapped in the summer but they came back to me just lapped. The color even was like gray- not shinny like when I took the engine apart. Thanks for the info.

Hi Aaron just saw this thread yes we offer re-nitriding and it is suppirior to mazda's .006 to .008 ours is .010 to .012 deep and we do a carburising on the plates to prevent future rust formation usually done before lapping unless specified lapping only by the client the client choses the work to be performed but we give all option up front and you chose. We repaire rusted water jacket passage and once all corrected we regroove o-ring jackets to original spec's BTW they are lapped to a RA24 finish yes the dull gray finish is the end product but mirror smooth. Once assembeled if you re-open after a few km the irons will be mirror like again like new (btw a new iron from mazda is not mirror finish it is like ours)
