I'm at a complete loss. I need help, please.
I'm at at loss. I have 4 issues. Please help
Car: '91 FC3C, S5, N/A, automatic transmission
Issue 1: I just had the transmission replaced (automatic). We get the transmission in, and when I shift in to gear, it bogs down under load. I also stall out.
Issue 2: the transmission shifts really weird. It's going through all the gears, but it takes a lot to shift from 1st to 2nd, and after it shifts to 2nd, and shifts immediately to 3rd.
Issue 3: the "brake" light remains on, even though the emergency brake is not set.
The "Engine" light is lit. The light wasn't on before the transmission replacement.
Here are the facts:
1: I've needed a new transmission for 3 years
2: I've been started 1-3 times a month since I've been sitting.
3: I have a fresh tank of gas (91 octane)
4: The transmission fluid is fresh...didn't change the filter.
5: The engine oil and filter has been changed
6: I have not had the spark plugs changed or checked.
I truly appreciate all input.

I don't know these auto trannies that well, so the ideas i'm going to give you is based of normal auto trans
CHANGE YOUR FILTER, why spend the money for fresh fluid when you don't know the condition of the filter? Now your probably gonna have to replace all that fresh tranny fluid you just put in
When you replaced the trans, did you replace or reuse the torque converter? Did you get it on all the way? Did you fill it with fluid?
And did you know the condition of the trans when you bought it?
The stalling part could be a bad torque converter, OR, a vacuum li e that you missed or pinched. Like i said, i don't know these auto trans, but most auto trans from the 80's needed vacuum in order to shift properly and idle right, so for sure check for vacuum leaks or bad hoses

The brake warning light serves two roles. Yes, it tells you when the emergency brake is engaged, but it also will tell you if the brake fluid is low.
The engine light is telling you there is at least one error code. Locate the Green check connector near the lead coil. It has only one wire and the wire is Orange. Ground this wire to the negative battery terminal and w/key to on the engine light will flicker and tell you what code(s) you have.
S5 error codes: http://www.banzai-racing.com/FD_S5_error_codes.htm
An integral part of your transmission is the vacuum modulator. The vacuum hose to it should not have fluid in it and the modulator helps in the shifting ability of the transmission.

Thanks for replying, guys. I'll keep you posted. I will change the trans. fluid again after I get a filter. I had to move the car from where it was being stored. So I had to put it back together instead of waiting a day for Mazda to order it. I used the torque converter from the transmission I received. I was told the trans was in great condition. The fluid was clean, but I wanted to change it anyway.

And the torque converter was on all the way. It slipped when we got the tranny up, but we adjusted it and pushed it back. The flywheel and converter wouldn't turn freely and bolt up correctly if it wasn't pushed back all the way, right? I didn't see or notice any pinched vacuum lines or leaks.
I ordered a fuel filter and fuel pump strainer (fuel pump sock). It'll be here tomorrow. I hope that's the issue. The car was not properly stored by the previous owner. He gave the car to me. It was his daily driver until he moved to Thailand. I did the best I could to keep it up while stored.
