NJ Exhaust question on my 85'

Hey there ..

So I bought my 85 GSL last week. Bought it knowing that I needed an exhaust . It had a little meat after the cat and not much else.

I bought a new muffler setup on Amazon last week and shopped it at the muffler shop to get installed.

I just got a call that i am missing a mid pipe between the end of the cat and the new muffler I bought.

Its 200 for them to get it and takes a week. I looked online and I dont seem to find what i am looking for.

Can anyone tell me where i can find that or if there is something else I should be going for?

Car is stock and wasnt looking for anything too nutty.

Thanks all!

welcome to the board.

if it's just a pipe and they're a muffler/exhaust shop, then why can't they fabricate it for you?

assuming you can get the pipe from any of the usual places one might look, i don't see you getting it any sooner and it's not likely to be much cheaper either.

I dont know. They are a Muffler shop but they made it sound like its not something they can create.

Im at a point i guess to just have them order it and i just wait it out. I am here since i seem to be out of luck from some searches. Not sure who their supplier is, but it seems to be a special order thing.

You have an 84' .. can you tell me if you have a mid pipe going between your cat and muffler?

Thanks for the welcome and reply!

from what i remember of it, yes, there would have been a pipe between the cat and the muffler - single in and out. however, even if my '84 were here for me to physically look at it, i got rid of the stock exhaust many, many years ago.

i don't doubt that they would have to order the "correct" pipe or that it would take some time to get it in-hand. the part that i find hard to believe is that they would not have the flanges, pipe and a pipe bender in their shop. i'm trying not to judge because after all i am sitting behind a keyboard about 1000 miles away, but it just seems weird to me.

I would have taken the car out of that shop and brought it to another one that can actually do the work without ripping people off.
This sounds like the classic "If they don't know,we can charge them" deal.

I would have put a 2" magnaflow Magnapack where the pipe was. It's like 66 bucks on Amazon, fills the space, and mellows the tone. As stated, any 1/2 way decent shop should be able to bend and weld pipe. I know that mid pipe is NLA.
