ID Drivetrain Identification

Alright, picked up another FC, and I know I can't diagnose everything as fast by looking stuff up as I could if I just asked the good questions.

From the top; picked up an '86 FC, has a five speed, sun roof, four lug wheels... but it's got the turbo engine. Asked the guy when it last ran, to his knowledge, 6 years ago was when it ran. So, I've some things I would like to identify, such as-

Transmission- how do I tell which is under it?

Rear end- if it's different, how would I tell?

Year of the engine- I assume the guy got the computer and the engine at the same time, and the ECU is the 332, which I believe is 87-88, right?

Finally, since this is all said and done, I figure the guy might've popped onto this forum during the swap, so I'll throw some pics of the car up here, if you guys knew the origins of the car, that'd be killer, too. As it sits, it needs a fuel pump (255lph Walbro is shipping as I post), some vacuum lines taken care of, and other miscellaneous crap. Had it running on gasoline in the intake for a while, seems like it won't need a . If you guys could point me in the right direction on IDing this stuff, that'd be killer. Thanks!

If the transmission has a separate bell housing it is a Turbo trans.
If the rear has 10(or is it 11) ribs on the back of it then it is a TII rear.
If it is an N/a rear it will have less ribs.
If it is an N/A LSD it should have the factory "use LSD type fluid" tag on the Filler plug.
N332 is a S4 Turbo ECU and it is the correct one.(both 332 and 333 like to see HI impedance injectors)

And the engine can be identified by...

I assume it's by the intake and turno, what visual differences are there?

Alright, finally got around to posting pictures of the car- if any of you have seen it on here, let me know, and maybe link me to the thread if you can? It'd be cool if the guy who did this was on here so I will know what he's done. Anything helps. Thanks.

S4 Turbo engine.
it has a 2 bolt thermo neck, the AFM (air flow meter) is a dead give away and the Interior says it is an S4 (86-88 model.)
by the way if you straighten the AFM out so that it is flat(not **** eyed/slanted) it will run better. You want the internal flapper to open and close like a door.

If the engine is bare bone stock that walbro will be too much and you'll need an aftermarket FPR

Also, ditch the n/a hood, your intercooler can't breathe and get cold air like its supposed too

Really? I thought it was a drop in replacement, is the pressure that much higher than the stock Is capable of? It'll at least get the car running, though.

I can't ditch the NA hood unless I have another, but I'm aware that no airflow means the TMIC is gonna cook.

the Afm should be orientated so that the black piece you see in pic#4 is flat (and on the top).
That allows the flapper door to open like a door which it should.
If you look back at when the AFM was on the stock aor box, that is rightfully how it should be positioned.
Having the Afm sit cockeyed can potentially allow it to stick or be "labored" and not allow it to open and respond as it should.

The Walbro will overwhelm the stock fuel regulator so it should be addressed.
Yes it will get the car running but it will also start to create problems as you now have more fuel pressure than what the stock pump put out.

The Aeromotive A1000 series has always been an RX7 favorite thanks to a few early day write ups for a parallel fuel systems (Ted @ FC3Spro).

However, my friend Andy at Adaptronic did some testing which may have me switching to a Turbosmart unit if/when my Aeromotive needs replacement in the future. You can take this with a grain of salt, especially depending on what your needs/power goals are.

Right on, that should pretty much cover it 'till I get to the vacuum ports and figuring out where they go. Actually, while I'm typing this, how is the wastegate plumbed in, and the twin scroll? I don't have any of those vacuum... Solenoids(?) on this engine, but I'm fairly certain I need one, from what I've gathered. Could one be replaced with any off the NA 6 port from an s4? (I have a whole spare engine).
