Coolant Temp. Sensor

1993 Rx7 r1
Okay I removed the engine coolant temperature sensor but the new one won't fit. I don't know if I got the wrong one but auto zone said it would work.

This is what i took out

And this is the new one

here is a video I made of the location where I took sensor from. The camera is upside down in final seconds of video

no. I think they probably gave you the right sensor. you just pulled the wrong one. simple mistake, really.

the one you pulled is the sensor for the gauge. you got that from the driver's side, under the oil filter, right?

the one you got (and need to replace) is the one that gives data to the ECU. replace the gauge sensor (you might want to use some thread tape), then look on the back of the water pump for the other sensor.

Thanks! I was thinking that's what I did but you clarified it for me

You'll have to pull the alternator to access the sensor on the back of the wp housing. I can't remember for sure, but it seems like to get to one sensor you may have to remove another that's in the way above it.

Thanks! I've been wondering how I'm going to get to the sensor if it's behind the water pump
