Ok, 1993 mazda rx7 single turbo, all emmisions deleted, giant injectors huge koyo radiator simple enough, i have been reading around about coolant flushes and possible air locks, my coolant system likes to create bubbles or gurgles sometimes, my coolant never goes down by any means a considerable amount, coolant is getting nasty soo, can someone give me some detailed advice on how to properly coolant flush and remove all or most of the air locks in the system, i know my coolant seals arent bad ive done a few diagnostic tests and coolant seems to stay just fine, oh and on a different note, anyone know why my idle is sometimes funny? jumps from 900 rpms to 1400, only sometimes though, car starts in 2-3 rotations on cold starts and the exact same on hot restarts, never has trouble in the hills or no feel of power loss.

welcome to the board.

your best bet would be to get a copy of the FSM. it is a good resource for DIY work. in terms of any specific kernels of information, i can't give that to you because i've never owned an FD. hopefully SgtBlue will chime in soon.

for your idle issue, when it jumps to 1400, is it surging/hunting or does it stay constant at 1400?

start with checking for binding at the cable, brittle vacuum hoses, dirty throttle plates, etc. - simple things. depending on your answer to my question, there may be other suggestions.

it searches it sounds like, only does it at operating temp, around 180, doesn't do it when i flip my fans on (AC switch re routed to fans, manual fans ftw). Yes i would be very glad to meet someone with a lot of experience on fds they are quite the picky creatures. and 1400 is only a rough estimate, maybe higher or lower sometimes.

As Diabolical1 mentioned, the FSM is your friend when trying to track down a hunting/loping idle. Downloadable versions available in the 3rd Gen. FAQ Sticky. There are many different causes and we could speculate for weeks. You could also go to that same 3rd Gen Section and do a search. I'd start by using Thread Titles Only with a broad term like "Idle" and start looking for threads that sound the most like your problem.
As for changing coolant...
Sounds like you also have air in the system. Drain the coolant from the radiator or lower radiator hose AND from the block drain located on the left side of the block in the center plate. IIRC it's a 14 mm plug. It'll be next to an unused threaded hole and just below the spark plugs.
To refill, pour in as much coolant as you can, replace filler cap, squeeze upper radiator hose a few times, remove cap, refill and repeat until the system won't take any more. For best cooling, use as much distilled water to green coolant as you can get away with safely in Oregon.

With the large funnel like thing do i just simply drain all coolant and then put all caps back in and then pull the main cap off and just fill it while the car is off or? i think ive seen similar things where the guy has the car on with the fans blowing and he just fills the funnel up with a ton of water and just lets the bubbles drain through, wouldn't the coolant just spill over the sides when its too full or should i tie the funnel down to the filler cap?

oh and one more thing, i have an aftermarket koyo radiator, im not quite sure how to drain the coolant out of that?
it seems to have a little end on it that looks like a cross hair with a circle around it on the bottom?
any ideas on how to flush that or do i just not touch it when flushing?

I have a Fluidyne with a traditional drain. But I think that's just a drain plug you can unscrew with flat-head screwdriver.

I had coolant problems as well turned out I had a leak for everything coolant related besides the seals it self haha water pump, hoses. Etc..

Yea i have a know it all "friend" who thought my water jacket seals were blown and also did a compression test with a harbor freight tester and kept telling me everything was crap on my car haha, i went through and did some actual diagnosing and found i just have some basic things that should be done.
