Bearings
So I'm pricing up parts for a 12A from atkins. since I'm using many new parts and building the engine from the ground up, should I replace the thrust bearing and the pilot bearing while I'm at it. its an extra $60 and from my inexperienced eye there is nothing wrong with the ones I took out of the paperweight (engine) which is now stored in my parents garage. its only $60 which is nothing compared to my current $ total for the parts I need but I would like to avoid unnecessary costs as $60 here and $60 there add up very quickly especially for parts I may not need.
lend me your wisdom, what do you say ?

welcome to the board.
you should be fine re-using the thrust bearings if they are in good shape. of course, that's said with the assumption that you're not running some kind of crazy clutch in the thing. i've never actually seen them in bad shape unless they get pinched (like when you pull the main pulley out without taking precautions). obviously, that doesn't mean they can't be in bad shape, but that's the only time i've ever seen them in bad shape.
i would advise making an effort to change the pilot bearing though.

My 2 cents is Do it RIGHT,Do it ONCE.
If the engine is cracked open, then replace bearings.
The Clutch System?..you do NOT want to put the trans on only to have a 6 dollar pilot bearing crap out on you.
Trust me,I had a throw out go on me after I put all new clutch,pp, and pilot in, within 60 miles and I was LIVID!..let's just say it was "stay away from that guy" day!.
I thought Hey the throw out "looks ok..sounds ok..must be ok".
Now it was you get what deserve on that,so lesson quickly learned.
Never again..now I replace ALL bearings, etc when given the chance.
