Automatic Transmission Whining

Car is a 93 FD, auto, bone stock with 109k miles.

So, im driving to work this morning, and I notice when I start the car I hear a loud whining coming from the transmission area. I let the car warm up, it goes away, so I just took it for a cold start for whatever reason.

I go to drive it, and about a mile down the road I cant accelerate above 40 MPH. Engine RPMS will free-rev, and I slowly lose speed. If I shift to any other position (D, 2, L) the car will barely move. Engine RPMs will shoot sky high pressing the throttle, but its like no drivetrain connection.

If I restart the car, the transmission will engine for a few minutes then the problem will happen again. This was beneficial since I needed to have the car towed home.

Transmission fluid is normal. It feels like the torque converter isnt locking up.

Im looking through the shop manual at the moment but if anyone has any insight im open for suggestions.
