Unhappy Any alternatives to removing clutch on fd?

Right. So I'm lifting my engine. Trying to seperate the pull type clutch is proving to be a nightmare. Can't you just unbolt the clutch from the flywheel using the hole left by the starter motor as access? Or anyone have a decent strategy for popping the mechanism? I can get it to move in a little but it just springs back :\. Any help much appreciated.
