'Acceptable Journal Bearing Wear'

Hi everyone

Just wondering if I could get the eye of someone with a bit more experience to look at these journals? Are they knackered? I know I haven't included the front iron set but they look new.

I've got chatter marks on both the housings (both knackered) BUT my apex seal springs are under allowable height so it could be that.

Any help appreciated!!!

Just a kind of whitening around the edges and around the join in the middle. Had to take the photos with the flash because it was getting dark, will try to get some better ones when it's light again.

Is it possible that worn apex seal springs could cause chatter marks? We're only talking about 4-5.5mm of height when the minimum allowable is meant to be 5.5. Would be nice if I didn't have to change the journals!

Chatter marks on the rotor bearing? No, apex seal springs won't affect that

No chatter marks on the rotor housing, on the chrome. Didn't explain that very well reading it back.

Yeah the rotor housings have chatter marks around them, I'm trying to work out what caused it:

Chatter marks is normally poor lubrication, but almost ALL engines seem to do it, long as you can smooth the housings out you'll be fine

So you'd use those housings again? I posted a pic of these the other month and a few people said they were scrap...I honestly don't know!

what are you trying to build? clean up the housings more with a scotch brite pad and brake cleaner and then take some new pictures, cause the pics you have they are dirty, and its hard to say

btw, your bearing pictures were hard to see on the phone lol, all the bearing pictures you posted are reusable

Here we go, take a look at these. Bit more detail.

I'm building a NA 6 port with a bit of porting. Aiming for 200-220whp with ITBs and MS3.

Yes, those housings are shot, those are much better pictures, and for what you wanna shoot for power wise, you'll want like new housings

Theres a guy that has 2 brand new s5 tII housings that would be perfect for what you want to do

Does he ship to the UK?

Thanks for confirming that. Are those chatter marks normal fare then? I'm searching for signs of up and down play and checking the e-shaft for warping etc.!

I wouldn't call those chatter marks, looks more like the engine ate a bag of nuts

And idk if he would ship to the UK, all you could do is PM him and ask

What's his name/handle?

There was actually a load of sh1tty granular looking stuff around one of the intake ports. The cooling system was also full of radweld, though I'm about 99% sure that there was no coolant leaking into the combustion chamber.

By chatter marks I referring more the lines going across the housing where the chrome has come off...
