87 Rx7 T2 starts, idles rough, no power,

Okay I'm new to this site and rotary. My name is Jeremiah Harris and I just purchased an 87 Rx7 T2. Now the problem the car will start and idle it sounds sorta rough to me but I could be wrong but the car has no power and boggs under acceleration, very hesitant, I've changed fuel pump, plugs, wires, done a compression test which was good, Was told could be the MAF. Maybe a vacuum Leak to the Fuel Pressure Regulator, Tps, Out of time. The guy I bought it from said he was driving it and it was running fine then just went to crap. The engine has 28xxx and the compression test would have shown a bad apex seal right? The harness looks like it has a couple of bad wires toward the bottom driver side of the engine. He said it was the starter wire but who knows. I plan on pulling the engine out and re doing the wiring but just trying to figure out if the things I'm mentioned above could cause my problem.

At what rpm does the engine bog down? Is it at all rpm's or just above a certain level. And does the engine free rev properly or does the engine still have problems. Bad wires really isn't good enough as their color and what they are plugged into would be more help in determining what they are.

At all rpm really and free Rev is the same. But I have sprayed ether while opening it up and it does good so puts my thoughts on fuel system. But if the maf is bad wouldnt that cause fueling problems? I'm used to obd2 cars mustangs and camaros so I'm sorta stumped and been working on it for 2 weeks straight. As for the wires I have no clue I just know one of them puffed some smoke last night while I was trying to figure it out

Testing the fuel pressure might be one thing to look at. The injectors might be clogged. The main engine harness might be poor. The catalytic converters could be clogged as well. The fuel filter could be clogged. The injector plugs could be problematic. The AFM could be problematic as you state. There is a list of the ECU pins in the FSM and comparing the readings from your car to the values stated in the car would be a good place to start. You can also unplug the TPS to see if there is any change and you could also unplug the AFM and see if that changes things but in doing so you'll have to jumper the fuel check connector. And speaking of the fuel check connector you could just jumper that and see if there is any improvement. And if you decide to unplug the AFM you should not run the car long or the exhaust manifold will start to glow.

Your best bet would be to check fuel pressure. I had the same problem with my 87 t2 and it turned out to be the fuel pressure regulator. I can't say that's your problem but a fuel pressure check would rule it out. mine was at a constant 20 psi and it would idle but as soon as you hit the gas it would bog. Hope that helps
