86 FC in a barn

Hello. My friend has a 86 FC, that is siting in his garage that has not started in 5 years. It has about 60,000km. He tried to start it recently and it cranks but will not start. He has confirmed that he has spark and air, so we are thinking it is either a fuel or compression problem. He claims there is fresh fuel in the tank when he tried to run it. I am thinking the next step would be to spray starting fluid into the intake and see if it runs for a few seconds to confirm if it is a fueling problem. My question is would the apex seals most likely be toast from sitting for so long?? I have no experience with wankels.
