5500 rpm prob
Hey everyone. i just got my 88 rx n/a. i got it to run after going throu and finding some issues from last owner. found spark plus loose and a few other things loose. but after getting everything up to par with what i could find, i got her running but she revs up to 5500 rpms and sits for a bit and shuts off. she smoked bad at first but thats no more than normal any more. i sure its a vac leak but all the lines look good. so i figured with it going to 5500 on start up (by its self) and then shuts down, that maybe some one could point out what vac systems to look at first. plz help i dont want to buy a new engine just yet!

2 things.
Set your timing before you start it.(you can align things without the engine On.Tons of threads on stabbing CAS,etc)
make sure your AFM is plugged in when you start it.

oh ok.. ya i have that plugged in. found i may have an aftermarket ecm, still unsure its a plane box with marker on it but its deffently newer than the car is, i found a greddy data disk for tuning in the car, i put the number on the ecu in the info set up and it let me right in. so im thinking i need to find the obd1 or obd2 plug on the car. and get a connector. a buddy told me if the guy that did the work tryed to retune the car he could of messed up a sensor reading. so could you point me in the right direction to get one of the obd usb connectors. and were is the connector on the car? never been into the computer side of this stuff, always been carb and screws for me.

On the standard turbo model, there's no OBD connector. Fault codes are retrieved by using an LED test light in different terminals of the green 6 pin connector near the leading coil. As far as tuning goes, I have no idea. If it's an aftermarket ECU there's usually a plug on the ecu for a handset or a serial cable for a PC.
