1980 rx7 Constantly struggling to start

I have a 1980 anniversary edition and it most of the time starts but everytime it seems to get harder r longer to start. It also floods a lot. What can I do so it stops? I've probably put about 3 different starters in it already and it's killing me haha. Literally any info helps. I heard about taking out the spark plugs and cleaning them or replacing them which I'm probably going to do but I just need any possible solutions any of you might know.

If it is carbed then my guess would be a dirty needle and seat in the carb that lets gas in when the engine is off.
If that is the correct diagnosis then you would need to get the carb cleaned and rebuilt.

a few thoughts ... how long have you had the car and is this something new? what fuel pump are you running? how strong is your battery?

if you have not already done so, you will want to start with a tuneup. the very fact that you're still running plugs that have flooded a few times is not helping, but in addition to that you cap and rotor may simply be worn.

misterstyx69 may very well be right about the carb needing a rebuild, but start look at simpler stuff first.

If you have enough fuel to flood, ignition is the answer. Gotta have enough spark to light that gas.

And along with fuel and spark, you need compression. I would do a compression check above all else, just because it is free (if you already have the tester) and you'll know whether you're beginning from a known good engine.

Do you have to feather the gas pedal to keep it running? If so could be fuel pump is bad, I had that problem.
