DC area Fall Road Trip 2016

DC area Fall Road Trip 2016
Fall is here and it is time (past time really) to start talking about the cruise. I was planning on phoning it in again and doing the same route/stops as we did in the spring. If people are clamoring for a new route, I will consider thinking up something new. Anyway, here's the usual boilerplate:
If you have not heard about the spring/fall cruise tradition be sure to check out some of the previous trips (HERE, HERE,HERE, HERE, HERE ,HERE, HERE, HERE, and HERE)
Here's the current planned route: (MAP) The trip is out to the Shenandoah, a cruise along Skyline Drive, then back to Old Bust Head.
As per our usual, we will be starting the trip at a breakfast establishment (IHOP @ 7495 Iron Bar Ln, Gainesville, VA 20155) for everyone who is interested to get some grub. This gives us the opportunity to show up at more flexible times. If you want to eat, make sure you are there with enough time to get your bill taken care of before we leave the parking lot. Departure time will be 10am, even if you aren't there for food make sure you are there EARLY. We'll be standing around chatting anyway and if you are late you run the risk of us leaving without you. Then you will have no other choice but to try and catch us up after we've already woken up all the law enforcement with our loud exhausts.
Remember: These meets are more about the people then the cars. Having your car be down for service is part of owning an Rx-7. Feel free to show to the meeting spot and grab a ride along with someone else, or if you want to drive along with us in something else that is cool too.
Once you decide that you are in, vote for the date you are interested in. Also, list your screen name and real name below, along with what day you are interested in, so I can have a running tally of who is showing up.

3. billybiceps - Bill
4. fendamonky - Levi
5. zoolander - Duc (at least half of it - may have to split early)
Spring drive pic - a bit annoyed that I didn't continue the pan to add a few vehicles, but then again, Rocky always says it's not about the cars but the people.

What time did we end up finishing the drive last time, like noon? There is a japanese classic meet in richmond that day that we could crash as well. Also may have a buddy(photographer) that wants to get some nice fd pictures.

We usually end up in Front Royal for lunch around 2 pm IIRC.
I'll do a little clamoring to make your life slightly more difficult Rocky. One suggestion would be to do the course in reverse, ie head to Front Royal after breakfast and finish with lunch in Sperryville or some other small town. (Or the Inn at Little Washington? haha). Another suggestion would be to meet at the Cars and Coffee that Matt just went to (but only 7 to 9 am - ugghhh) and then head north to route 7 toward Leesburg. We could stop by Top Golf or iFly next door off route 7. We don't have to participate but it can serve as a driving break - hit some ***** or watch people "skydive." Harpers Ferry is a good destination from there, if we're inclined. But my true intention is really for me/us to check out Dirt Farm Brewing. The scenery around it looks nice for a drive and I'm sure the roads can handle us. Dirt Farm Brewing | Farm Brewery in Loudoun County, Virginia It also seems to be more doable with a smaller group. That is, before Billy's non-forum gang comes crashing in. Thoughts?

Zoo - be forgivin' an old man - know we met at either last spring's drive or my first, the prior fall - and remember you hailing from Falls Church, but s.o.b can't remember yo name. Anyway -don't worry about my non-forum guys changing numbers much. I've extended drive info to some of them before and nothing. Maybe for same reason they aren't on the forum at all - nice guys & prorotor, but not super social ?? Bill

If we wanted to do the cars and coffee thing as a meeting point, there are plenty of good roads about 15 minutes away from there that would put us up through Middleburg and then over by Mt. Weather. From there, I suspect Jack knows some good roads in that area if we ask nicely :P

^ Thanks Levi. I guess we won't be nominating Bill to be the IT expert for our local rx7club chapter. (Just a little ribbing Bill, no offense whatsoever....sarcasm and humor doesn't always translate in the interwebs.)
I'd love to be definitive on a route but just don't know that area very well. Let me explore Google Maps a bit today. And to make things ever so slightly more complicated, I'll just throw out there that Sunday is the last day of Rennfest. "Good morrow sir!"

I plan on going earlier on Saturday. Sunday will likely be a wasted trip with MANY overheated rotaries if you don't get there early. (A guy I work with goes religiously every year, each weekend, and he says that the last weekend is always PACKED to capacity and you can easily get stuck on the road for 30 min to an hour waiting to get in. As in, they will refuse entry if you get there too late...)

The day is decided in my opinion, we are going to do Sunday.
Duc, -> Route/stops are still undecided and I am willing to entertain any and all options. But, unless you (or anyone else) has a concrete route (i.e. specific mapped route and stops) there is no way that we will decide (as a group) on anything.
Trust me, I've herded these cats before.

I hear ya Rocky. And I see why you phone it in twice a year, coming up with a new route is difficult.
Just played around with Google Maps. The original trip in reverse is probably best. Although I wouldn't mind a new route, my option 2 looks to be mostly one lane roads and not extremely picturesque. And there's not much along the way other than small town shopping and wineries. The latter not the best life choice while on a road trip. I'll just have to scout it at some point before taking a group out.
Our normal route, backwards = https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/vi...R81wirrSog5qF0
Option 2 = https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/vi...9MSjbrI5s2k2Tg
