i did some playing with the carb on the p port, and when it warms up it stops misfiring, so it kind of idles like stock @850-900rpm too.

Yeah, I definitely prefer the half-bridge over the peripheral port. It has most/all of the midrange torque of the peripheral port and most/all of the street manners of a large street port.

Takes a whole lot less time to build, too!
