Open loop boost control works on the MS1 as long as you add the hardware mod. If you want to run closed loop boost control, Ken is suggesting that you should only do so on the MS2 because the control algorithm is much better.
I'd say try the open loop and see how it goes. If you are only trying to raise the boost a few PSI then close loop control isn't really necessary. But if you want to be able to set an exact boost pressure (and have the option to reference it to TPS and RPM) then closed loop control is required.

I'm just about to finish up a supra with the new boost solenoid attached to the zeal board ( replaces tach output), on a MSII/3.57 setup w/mapdaddy mod.
Will have more insights in a few days.
on a side note, that new boost solenoid is awesome, I think I'llb e getting oen to replace my OEM WRX setup..

The wastegate actually starts to open quite a bit before 14 PSI because a spring is linear, but yes, moving it up 2 PSI will be easy with open loop boost control. Start with really low duty cycle numbers and just bump them a few at a time until you get your extra 2 PSI.

ok so to do this would I still hook up the solenoid between the outlet on the turbo and the wastegate? Because technically then I would need to set it up to 16 psi to get that extra 2 psi correct? because if I only had it set at 2 psi the solenoid would allow the air to the wastegate at 2 psi and be pointless

Don't know if it is productive to dig up such an old thread but it is a testament that the search feature works.. I want to add an electronic boost controller to my ms2 v3. I was curious if I need to build a control circuit for the solenoid or if I can run it through the on/off out on the seal card? If not I have my PWM signal for my a doe air valve available. Would that be a better option ?

The on/off outputs on the Zeal card are limited to 1A, so not enough for a boost control solenoid. You need to use the PWM output on the Zeal. If that is taken up, you can use the PWM for the idle air value as you suggest.

I'm using it on MS3x. I'm currently having issues. So for some reason i won't see a change in boost pressure until I'm at 95% duty cycle. My spring puts me at 10psi, and at 94% I'll see 10 psi, but as soon as I hit 95% I'm hitting my boost cut at 17psi. I can't find a possible solution anywhere. Anyone have any ideas why? I'm on BNR stage 3 turbo, Kinugawa 10psi spring. Can anyone explain why it just jumps like that?

What are your frequency/latency settings for the solenoid? It sounds like those are incorrect, so the solenoid is either staying on all the time or off all the time instead of cycling.
