'93-'98 Mustang GT vs. LS1 FD

So the other day we went to get my car tuned at Vengeance Racing in GA, but it ended up being a waste as I've got an exhaust leak that's making the car dump fuel. As I'm getting back into town, I come up on a white '93-'98 Mustang GT that I had raced once before when my car was still a rotary. I had the stock twins running on ~11psi with i/e and I believe he's cammed his car and put a 75 shot on it, but I'm not completely sure about that. When we originally ran, at the beginning he rubbed his fingers together like he wanted to run for money and then he took off from me pretty quickly, fast enough that by the time I was really rolling he was a good 4-5 cars ahead of me. This time I pull up beside him and he's got his girl in the car with him. I don't know what it is, but when they have their g/f's with them, it makes raping them all the more gratifying. In any case, I'm beside him and I give it a few taps on the gas to say hi and to let him know I want to run. He immediately takes off and cuts infront of me to pass a car in his lane. I get back up beside him and I tap at him again. Got the same response, him immediately taking off, but this time I was ready, I had it in the middle of 3rd when he jumped and planted it into the floor. He got about 3/4 of a car on me before I got into the powerband, but when I did, it was over. Shifting into 4th he was at my door and I continued to pull so hard, by the end of 4th I shut it down about 2 cars ahead. He took the next immediate right turn, so I didn't get to ask him about his car or anything like that. Hopefully I'll run into him again soon to ask him about his car and see if he really does want to run for some cash.

Good kill. You should race for his girlfirend next time, but I have a feeling he'll be getting a slightly bigger shot.

That's okay, I've got one to match him. We didn't tune for the spray considering the way the car's running at the moment, but hopefully we'll get that ironed out soon so that we can go back and retune for off the bottle and on.

I'm kinda curious which year you raced. Those Mustangs are pretty slow stock. A 93 is still a Fox so it was probably 94-98, 94-95 still had the 5.0 and they had 3 horizontal lines for tails, while 96-98 had the 4.6 and had 3 vertical lines for tails. He must have had quite a bit of work done to do that well against an LS1 (you are running nitrous?), so that's definitely a good kill.

94-95

96-98

That's a good question, I never knew there was a difference between those years and I wasn't paying enough attention to see which way his tails were running. I'll see what I can track down about the car.

Thatll just make it better when his engine grenades on him during the race.

Good kill. Ive always wanted to drive or ride in an LS swapped 7, but never had the chance.

A stock 5.0 can take a 100 shot. The 4.6 is a different story.

And that from the guys that actually post their timeslips.

FYI, you'll top out 3rd at ~80 and 4th at @110. The good news is, you've still got 2 more gears to go. Anyway, that's just what I keep in mind when selecting gears from a roll.

Once you get traction, your car should be able to take any street mustang in town.

Nothing like a cammed V8 with Headers.

I'm waiting for my 13b to blow a seal, then I'll join the darkside. In the meantime, I enjoy stories like this.

I had a similiar situation in my V8 car, some douche in a camaro was going in and out of traffic, he swerved to get in the lane next to me and when he was even with me THEN I floored it, so he passed me going full throttle, but before his car was in front of mine I passed him like nothing.

Then at the next light he lined up next to me, but it was not even a contest even with me taking off light so I would not be all wheel spin.

his car said SS, but who knows with those guys if its a SS or just wears a badge.

The nice part about it was 2 days before on the same stretch of road I was bringing my NA vert to my shop and he was pulling the same ****- needless to say I would not stand a chance in that car.
But I was moving it to my shop to let the turbo transplant begin- hope to catch up with him again and remind him not to mess with the black Mazdas on that road anymore!

nice kill, but it's so much more satisfying with a rotary...V8s know their own tune!

it's so humbling for these V8 rednecks to get smacked around by a tiny 1.3 L beer keg motor...endless entertainment
