Aloha...
I'm from B.C. Canada, but now live in Kauai, Hawaii.
I bought my first RX7 when I was in high school. I loved the car so much...I owned 10 more rotary cars in the next 5 or so years. I've had many 12a cars and a GSL SE about 12 years ago. Went through a few 2nd gens, but am partial to the first gens. Also owned a green 73 RX3 wagon....which i regret selling (sold it about 10+ years ago). The buyer (who was from New Mexico) was going to put a 20B in it. I wonder if that car is still around...
Fast forward about 10 years and I have the need for another rotary. So, I bought a 1985 GSL SE on eBay. Owner seemed nice and helpful. I had the car shipped from the east coast. Unfortunately, the car is in much worse shape than the seller represented. The body is fairly staright but rough, has some rust (and some ugly rust in the interior over the wheel wells, which the seller did NOT declare). You will see the car in the completed listings on eBay. It's white with gold mesh wheels.
The car has many issues: idles very poorly (seller claimed perfect idle...), it surges, jumps around, does everything really. It dies constantly when I come to a stop and have to push in the clutch...just drops fast and dies. I'll have to go through the entire idling setup procedure. Tons of slack/free play in the steering wheel, makes a clicking noise in the front end when I turn the wheel all the way to the right...then to the left while moving slowly (like in a parking lot). It pulls to the left, has some vibration at cruising speed coming from middle of car. High beam headlights not working....windshield washers not working (seller claimed every switch worked)....you get the picture
Anyways, I'm stuck with the car....on the positive side the motor was rebuilt about 5k miles ago (according to seller, but I think its legit). It pulls pretty hard....has a few modifications. The wheels are cool...and its got louvres, which I like although they make noise when driving. A/C works ok but makes a hissing noise coming from the passenger side...and when I have it on the motor makes a thumping noise under the hood...not sure what it is....(seller claimed new "crisp cold A/C")
There are virtually no Rx7's here on Kauai. I also have a 73 Datsun 240z...my other love. Also a motorcycle enthusiast...own 3 hondas (VFR800, NT650 Hawk, RC51)
I'm committed to getting this GSL SE back to its former glory and give it a paint job eventually (which it needs badly). I'm hoping you guys can help me out.
Also open for some sort of exchange....you come to Kauai and help me with my car...you get to stay in Kauai for free and I tour you around the island....hehe thought I'd throw that offer out there, eh!
