Paramagnetic Paint

Any of you ever heard of this?

I just came across the technology in a tech article.

Here is the summary of the article-

A new technology using a "paramagnetic" paint coating will allow owners to change their vehicles paint colour at the turn of a dial.

It works by sending a current through a special polymer applied to the vehicle before painting. The polymer contains particles of "paramagnetic" iron oxide. With the application of an electrical current , the distance between the oxide's crystals is adjusted, affecting their level of light reflection and therefore our colour perception.

The first commercial applications are expected on the market as early as 2010 (most likely applied to a Nissan)

I remember reading that article. It is really cool technology. The new infinity SUV has a new tyoe of "self headling" paint, where it repairs any scratches that happen by itself.

I have heard of similiar things in the window tinting industry with adjustable tint control windows....I believe they were using liquid crystals to achieve this.

How cool would that be, have dark windows and a red car, get chased by a cop, turn the corner and you now have a blue car with no window tint and the cops can't find you.

^^^^^ Thats exactly why i see this new technology being a problem. You could just go pull over and park with a whole bunch of cars and have your car go back to nuetral which is white. It is a pretty cool idea though.
