FD - how do I remove the center console?

can someone give me a how-to or a few tips?

I'm referring to the section that houses the shifter - specifically, the leather section (which houses the metal section, which houses the shifter).

cheers

DaiOni, the center console has a couple of metal clips that if you just pull up on the edges of the center console, the clips will pop right off.

BUT....here's the SUPER important part. DO NOT pull up on the center console yet. There's a screw that's hidden, holding the whole piece in. I remember a few years back when I came to pull it off and I was pulling, but it wasn't budging. I KNEW there had to be something I was missing.

The screw is hidden under the ashtray pocket. Remove the ashtray (or armrest if that's what you have), and there you'll find a single screw. Undo the screw, and now you can just pull the console off

Huh? This must be something on the '94's, because I've removed countless 93 consoles, and none of them had a screw there. On all of the ones I've done, it has been the same: unscrew the shift ****, then (gently) pull up on the console from the e-brake area, and work your way around the console gently pulling up on all the connection tabs. Lastly, unplug the connectors, and the console is free.

Just rip it off J/k...sorry I dunno.

Rob, there's no screw, or no hole? Maybe it is a '94 thing, or maybe ppl took out the screw and never put it back? For sure, the '94s have screws though. There's obviously a spot above the tranny tunnel that the screw screws into too.

Nope, no screw, no hole, nothing.

Must just be another thing they decided to change in 94. Weird.

The gauge cluster is kind of a pain, as the entire steering column needs to be dropped. I'm pretty sure there's a write up on it somewhere in here...

It's been a while since I've done it, but it's pretty straight forward. You need to open the driver's side door, and then remove the screws on the side of the dash by the vent.

Next, remove the plastic covering under the dash (should be screws facing the drivers seat). Next, the two semi large bolts under the steering column to drop it down. Once you have all those, you should be able to PULL the steering column towards the driver's seat to remove it.

If I missed anything, it won't be too hard to figure out.

Ok...I just got owned lol. Took out the screw, and it looks like whoever put it in drilled the whole in the center console and in the plastic piece directly under the ashtray, to hold the console in. Talk about a lot more work than popping in the clips that hold the console in! lol.

I had 5 clips laying around, so I checked, and sure enough, of the 5 spots where there should be clips, 4 were vacant lol. Popped 'em on, put the console back on (without the screw lol), and vioala.
