im am not sure what you are talking about. i know of 2 processes to get a 'pearl' paint. i am sure there are more.

1. fine metallic flakes added to the paint and clear coat- a 2 paint process. of course you can add more flakes, but the more you add the more it looks mike a bumper car at the fair. i dont see how you could get a black pearl this way, unless the base coat blue was rather light.

2. is called a tri- coat pearl: base paint, an iradescent paint (not metallic flakes by Dupont), and a clear coat. when you see a car that appears to changes color depending on how you view it, it is using this process. now the iradescent works with light to cause this color change, and seeing how black absorbs light, the only way you could get the car you are describing using this process would be to have a car with a BLACK base paint and a blue iradescent coat.

id love to see a car the color you talk about.

I painted my PGT Black with a dry Lazuli Blue pearl mixed in with the clear. It would have came out beatifully if the guy who sprayed it had a little more experience with pearls. If thats the type of color you are talking about I have some good pictures. PM me if your interested.

Thanks for the info guys,

I The piture in my head is of the tri-coat pearl? So your saying this can't be done? Because I could have sworn I saw a pic of an FD that was purple with a black pearl. At least it looked like black pearl It was purple look head on and then around the curves it seemed to turn black.

I'll try to find that pic again.

Please let me have any more input u guys might have.

I had mine done in black with blue pearl and it turned out beautiful. It's basically midnight blue...but as you can see in this thread, it looks black more often than not.
