Haltech Boost Control Solenoid
Engine is a S5 13BT, stock turbo (ported WG), stock ports, 2.5" dp/mp and 3" catback, TID, and I'm shooting for 1000cc injectors. ECU is a Haltech E8.
I've heard some people say the Haltech Boost control solenoid was basically a piece of ****, and that you're better off going with a good EBC.
I know the E8 has closed loop boost control, so I don't see why it would be a better option NOT to use the boost control solenoid built for the ECU if given the chance?
Basically, are there any reasons NOT to go with the Haltech Boost Control Solenoid?
And are there any reasons why someone (ME) should go with a tried and true EBC, like a Greddy Profec B, instead?
I want to utilize the features available with this ECU to their full potential, that's why I got it.
Thanks in advance,
James

It works perfect.
Closed loop boost control cannot be done by 99% of the boost controllers out there. When set up correctly boost control is rock steady at every rpm point and is not affected by temperature changes like most duty cycle based boost controllers.
The feature I love the most is the 'Boost-by-gear' option.
You have a lot more options using the E-8 to control the boost.

The solenoid isn't the POS it's the early ECUs. Like Crispeed says the E8 and E11 have very good boost control features now. But the E6X still uses the none too great duty cycle v. RPM strategy. When the weather changes so does your boost level. If you have anything other than the E8 or E11 with the newer firmware skip to an EBC or good manual controller.
