ECU test mode ?

Hi,

I'm having problems getting my E11v2 working on my RX7 (3rd gen). I think there's a problem injecting fuel when the engine is cranking. I have some theories as to why this is happening, but I thought I'd ask for some advice anyway.

When cranking with the fuel pump on, the battery voltage drops to 9-10Volts. Is this enough to open and close the injectors (eg. for 2-3ms injection time) ?

The fuel pump I'm using is a large Bosch one (bought from horsepowerinabox.com over a year ago, which I ran with a Microtech LT8 before the Haltech). I thought the E11v2 was turning the pump OFF as it was cranking, so as a test I wired up a switch (which feeds to the pump relay) to GROUND on the chassis so I could control it manually.

When the pump is on it makes a loud whirring sound as if its trying to pump fuel like crazy, but there's nothing to pump. The gas tank has about 2-3gallons left in it, which should be enough just to start the engine. My fuel pressure guage has died so I'll have to borrow one to check the pressure at the regulator. It was at 38psi when it was last working. Does the E11v2 control the fuel pump switching on and off as the LT8 would? Because I remember the LT8 sometimes switching the pump off and then losing fuel pressure when I was cranking the engine. It seemed to have a mind of its own! Apart from the fuel regulator is there some sort of check valve that lets the fuel go straight back into the tank? Also I'm not sure if the fuel pump has a ballast resistor wired up to it.

Is there an ECU test mode on the E11v2 which I can use to listen to the injectors opening and closing ie. when I turn the ignition on and with the fuel pump turned off?

Thanks,

Adrian

my e11 would shut off if the battery voltage got too low during cranking.

to see if the injectors are working, the best way i think is to unplug the fuel pump and spin the cas (on the fc we can plug in a spare and spin it by hand), the fd thats a little tricky.

maybe hook up a light to the fuel injector connector?

Thanks for the reply. The problem was ... I didn't have enough fuel to start the engine, Doh!!. The fuel guage was still reading about 1/4 tank though, so it was probably due a faulty sensor.
