Here is a vid of the Viper pedals. A lot like RX7 style. Accelerator pedal does have the traction circles on it.

Hi everyone, sorry I have been MIA for a few days. I have been busy at work and the throw out bearing on my daily driver blew up so had to pull the engine and transmission out to replace it.

I am aware of that most gas pedals are smooth. Back on the first page (post #21) I briefly addressed this but maybe should have put more attention on this.

I am going to install a pedal face into my daily driver and see how it feels, I also have a local forum member who is going to test a gas pedal assembly and report back.

That being said, if it turns out that these pedals stick down and are potentially unsafe I will abandon the project. This project started out because I want a matching gas pedal in my FD, purely cosmetic. I don't have any plans to race the car and the pedals probably aren't the greatest for the track honestly.

Thanks for all the support guys and I will report back soon with updated designs and results of in car testing.

-Matt

I don't think there are any safety issues here, buddy. As long as the pedal doesn't fall off the lever, you're gold.
I think smooth vs texture is going to be a feel preference, most driving shoes are smooth on the bottom with nothing to catch an edge.

Looking forward to you next update.

A lot of aftermarket pedals have anti-slip even on gas pedals. I do not think it will be an issue.

Hey guys, I was able to fit another row of circles onto the gas pedal. I had to tweak the geometry of them a little bit what do you think?

RHD guys, I need some advice on how to layout the circles. On the OEM plastic deadpedal
the circles that go to the edge get cut in half. I cant make a deadpedal that has a lip all the way round and also has partial circles but I can make either one. two examples are below.

I'm not too worried about it, but if worse comes to worst, you could easily just design the pedal with perhaps a bit less depth around the circles to lessen the snag effect while still maintaining the OEM look we're all loving.

Thanks for your diligence on this!

I like the new gas pedal. I think it's closer to OG.

I love this project.

As a non-RHD person, maybe I'm speaking out of turn, but I had a couple ideas about that dead pedal cover.

I thought this might better match the latest version of the gas pedal, which I like a lot.

After doing that I wondered if you could make circles around the hole for the screws, where places you want to put the screws overlap the pattern. That way the places where the screws go would sort of look like the un-drilled circles on the pedals.

I don't know if that would add a ton more difficulty - my very uneducated guess is the area inside those circles would have to be flat rather than concave - but I feel like for both the LHD and RHD dead pedal covers this might be a way to make it look more like the other pedals.

Thanks for the feedback! Putting the screws inside of the circles wouldnt be a problem at all.

I think your picture looks better than the ones I made, but I am not crazy about the "steps" on the left sode. The RHD pedal is a real bitch when it comes to patterning the circles. Anyone else have some feedback?

Thanks for taking the time to make those pictures mr.baghadev!

Gas pedal looks much better, thanks for taking the time to add the extra circles .

I like all of those RHD dead pedals tbh! Personally, my favorite is mr.baghadev's second design.

Hey Sideo, that new mock-up looks really good with the extra row of circles. I tried playing around with it a bit but had a hard time moving circles horizontally without getting them to overlap (I think it's due to the angle in the model). So, rather than try that I figured I'd just point out this one thing I'm seeing.

Is it just a trick of the angle on this 2D picture of a 3D model that the left row of circles seems to not follow the edge of the pedal very well? If you look at the markup I've attached, it looks like the distance between the row of circles and the left edge of the pedal decreases as you head down towards the bottom of the pedal. Since the width is fixed in this area, I wouldn't expect to see this.

Thanks again!

Also, I think with the added circles there is less chance of the surface of the pedal gripping onto your shoes. I drove my FD this morning and tried to see how the brake pedal felt if I used it similar to how I'd use the gas pedal and I didn't notice any gripping/catching on my shoe. Granted, it's a Vans and the honeycomb makes it pretty flat. Maybe someone wearing Timberlands or Doc Martens might have more problem? :P

I'm pretty unconcerned about this as an issue.

I think thats because the left and right sloped sides are not parallell

Seconded, I used to have a pair of adidas with saw teeth on the bottom, similar to below. But, short of that pretty much all shoes are not going to grab.

Thanks for all the great support and feedback guys. I ran the mill too fast and broke my 1/16" endmill on friday trying to make a new prototype so I wasnt able to get any machining done this weekend. Im going to pickup another end mill tomorrow and get back to the grind!

Update

Hi everyone,

Finally got another prototype done. Hoping this is the last revision so I can focus on the dead pedal, and the other hardware for the gas pedal!
