Rotor housing chipped near exhaust (13b-msp)
I bought a used engine from the junkyard (13b-msp with ~67k miles) and tore it apart. I noticed on the rotor housings, there is a chip leading out to the exhaust. On both housings, same spot, same side too. (Attached 3 pictures) When taking apart rotor, I couldn't find all the apex seal tips.
Both stationary gear bearings had wear too. (attached 2 pictures)
I'll get new bearings and press them in, but wondering about the rotor housings. Is this something Goopy can fix up? The irons seems ok with min wear.

Yeap as said scrap pile. I have pulled down 2 rx8 Blocks recently and all housings had same damage. Notice it lines up where closing edge of conventional exhaust ports would close? I think it's because the motor is not able to get rid of all exhaust gas out of stupid side Ports

Oh and also was it triptronic by any chance? Has rear counterweight? One of the 2 I pulled down had some of the worst stat gear bearing wear I'd seen and it was from a triptronic.

Yes it's lined up to the exhaust ports. I'm not sure if the car was triptronic (just got the engine from the wreckers), but it does have 2 counterweights, front and back. It's too bad because the rotor housings are in pretty good shape other then that. Nobody can recoat them yet by the sounds of things.
I'm going to balance the rotating assembly parts anyways. Cheap insurance.
Just need to source a good price on new housings now.

I sent Goopy an email. It won't hurt for them to look at it, even if it turns out to be a paper weight. Worth a shot. Look around $700 each for new.

Elliot has actually done a small peripheral exhaust and kept the side exhaust ports. 5 port exhaust. I seen it on there Facebook page. Never heard of any results.
The chrome lifting seems to be a common fault. Here in nz Iv emailed all the Mazda wreckers and none have any usable housings. And there are a lot of engines available.
Some I stripped were worse then above as they had done same damage to both sides of housing. Lifted about 15mm in from edge. Crazy damage considering the 2 i stripped had both done less then 115000kms
