MO Rebuild question is this rotor useable?

Just tore down a motor that was rebuilt by aspec tuning around 8 years ago. Previous owner paid 4500$ for the motor . New Mazda seals looks like a street port
Housings look great , side plates look great was very happy with my findings. I got this engine free after flipping a 3rd gen that had been sitting in some guys parents garage for 8 years unfinished. He did have it running on twins break in only 1500 miles. Housings were new according to him. My one big question is they reused a rotor that shows damage from apex seal . I have searched I found one thread that says it was ok w a dent to reuse. This is a gouge.

Also oem corner seals look new , reuse
Or go solid?

Want to build a tight motor built for 600 wheel hp
Plan to run 500.

Also my previous motor had Atkins seals w solid corners seals.
Compression around 90psi. Never blew at 500 who
Always hot start great
Lost oil line on highway that is why I needed new block

Please give me opinions, aspec reused it but should I?

+1 for 600hp, you should probably start with a new engine. you wouldn't try to make 1200hp with a v8 with used pistons

That's what I was thinking
Is it common for people to use parts like this.

What are the thoughts on keeping oem corner seals

Ya..a lot of people would use that because they just do not know..Period!Even so called "builders" would use that as they only want money and get the car out the door..Done,out of sight out of mind.
Don't hate on me..I say SOME Rebuilders..There are those who actually care about what they do but lately it's all about the Benjamins..
I say it should be about the integrity of a Honest days work.
Guys on here know who they are and I am glad to know they are also contributing members and willing to help ...ahem..(you know who you are!)
People do not research HOW To build an engine with what is considered good parts and they should.Maybe is just plain laziness but in the long run if you want to spend money wisely you build ONCE..not twice because you wanted to save money by using crappy parts!..THANK GOD that you are DOING your homework and getting the CORRECT INFO on here!

PS: that rotor is a Boat anchor..

Yeah looks like I need to find a d weight rotor that's what the other one is, oh well at least the other parts are in good shape, much better off than my motor that ran out of oil.

You can expand your search to a C weight also, along with s5 fc rotors, they are the same rotor IIRC

Ok so I'm not going to put this anchor in this motor but will keep for a low power or na build , or I can paint it for a display in my garage,

Next question reuse oem corner seals in great new like condition or go for solid ones
I've read many mixed reviews

Again, for the power you want to make, go with as much new as you can afford, and the solids would be better against boost either way

no offense but that rotor appears perfectly usable for lower power applications.

i feel the opposite, plenty of builders toss out parts that are perfectly usable, and as time goes on and the parts get harder to find you will find people will switch to my mentality of "it may not be pretty but it still works just fine". if someone can afford all new parts, then by all means.

i used a similar rotor in an S5 FC that made over 450whp for 50k miles, and it wasn't the rotor that eventually caused it to quit but a dirty injector.

for 600+WHP though i would suggest using a better rotor and save that one for something else.

but to top it all off it sucks when you are put down for trying to save people money... like you're the bad guy. if it was about the benjamins i would have been more successful instead of struggling to survive. it's stuff like this is why i just go back away from the community for years, an engine is a combination of mechanical parts, not an assembly of photogenic fancy facebookworthy images. it actually makes me a little sick when people oogle over parts you won't ever see once on an engine, with their wallets out and paychecks cashed, because i feel they are just wasting their money. if that gouge was in a rotor housing in the compression zone, across the apex seal channel or on an iron face in the oil channel then i would say pitch it.

out of the 350 or so engines i built over the years i could count on one hand how many failures were involved. only half of those could have been cured by using new parts, the other few were just me doing something stupid during assembly(i once crushed an apex seal boot between all 3 iron/rotor/housing, that was an expensive mistake, but who paid for it? the greedy one right here).

no, actually the greedy ones are the shops who still charge you $2000 to build an engine with new parts, which only takes about an hour to inspect for shipping damage and proper machined tolerances, an hour to build the rotors and trim the side seals, then about 45 minutes to assemble your engine. sometimes i can assemble an engine in as little as 15 minutes, actually. so people wonder why they have nice glossy floors and i have bare, cracked concrete? i'm not even going to answer that.

i don't even know why your post bothered me so much but it did.

Any ideas on my corner seal question? Keep oem
Or go back to the Atkins solids again.
Have read many mixed reviews
Solids may b stronger but seam to have sealing issues and rougher on housings
Oem seal great but 50%of what I read say the plug falls out

My last motor had Atkins solid corners and apex seals
Plan on using Atkins apex seals again they held up well for 500 whp on e85 , also my old car that was daily driven 418 whp pump gas never blew a seal and I beat on that car daily

if you break a corner seal then you're doing something seriously wrong anyways. i have had the aftermarket corner seals dig into irons, i have never had OEM corners cause any extra wear like they have.

they only disappear on bridgeported engines, so i do not install them on bridgeported engines.

their purpose is to help seal the apex seal ends, but really it is arguable that they even do anything at all in that respect. i have built some engines with them, some without them, the ones without did not have bad or poor compression as a result.
