hi there all,
I was just wandering which 13b engine has the largest oil capacity sump ?
is there any perf advantage having a larger oil sump ?
I have a 1988 series 4 ,6 port engine and was going to buy a rx4 after market sump!

I know the oil pan on the S4 and S5 have the same capacity.

I will Assume i do ontknow that all 13b engines have the same capacity but again i am not sure

I don't know what the largest capacity 13B oil pan is, but I would guess the older the more oils based on the FC, FD and FE (RX-8) engines I have.

On my FC I used the Mazda Factory Race oil pan which is said to hold 7 quarts. I used just shy of 2 gallons of oil with an oil and filter change.

The pan is made by taking a stock pan, cutting the bottom, back and sides off of it and brazing flat sections (boxing it in) to increase the capacity and make the sides more vertical so oil does not "climb" the sides as easily with G forces.

I used the Racing Beat oil pan baffle between the pan and engine and it worked well except it was another point of leaking and more RTV/time putting it together and taking it apart.

I finally cut my own baffle out of steel and tack welded it into the MFR FC pan so I could just have the one sealing surface- worked awesome.

I used a Banzai oil pan brace to help spread the load of the oil pan bolts for a better seal- had to modify the inner shape a bit to work with the boxed out MFR oil pan.

I have better pictures at home- this was supposed to be of the exhaust in the foreground.

The larger sump capacity alone will help with thermal management of the oil as there is a larger capacity of oil to heat and cool (a heatsink or reservoir).

The larger sump along with intelligent design will decrease the movement of oil when the vehicle is subjected to G forces so the oil pump pick-up tube stays submerged.

It's not like we have a crank slapping around in here either... This is one HUGE advantage of the rotary oil system vs. a standard reciprocating engine.

Add capacity? You mean add another oil cooler!
