Axle Shaft Balancing

I have a freshly rebuilt TII diff and axle shafts in my 87 Sport, and after 50mph, there's some vibration from the rear. My old na diff was smooth as silk, and the only difference now is the turbo rear setup and a Mazdatrix conversion driveshaft.

That said, is it common to rebalance axle shafts after they've been rebuilt? Other than the rear wheel bearings which have no more than 4k miles, I don't know how the rear could vibrate so much.

Any help is appreciated.

Nevermind. I supported the rear of my car, put it in gear, and the problem was my left rear tire. Changed the rear tires with some others I had, and it's smooth now.

Just for whomever may stumble on this thread in the future: I didn't find any weights on my old axleshafts, so maybe balancing them isn't even a big deal? Also, my tires rode fine last year, but over the winter it must have developed a flat spot, or it might have had one too many episodes of abuse. I guess tires can go quick.

Have fun.

i've never heard of balancing an axle shaft, although i bet that some of the high $$ racers do it (they gun drill them also).

I recently talked to the guys at driveshaft shop because of a customers axle issues. cv Axles aren't balanced, the shafts are just checked for straightness, and make sure your cv joints are good, that's all

I had never heard of drilling out axleshafts. That's some dedication.
