GB Interest: Rotary Run Racing Headlights!!!

I met up with Ramy this weekend to take him down to Orlando to pick up his car. As we were having lunch he mentioned about replicating my rotary run racing headlights. These headlights have been discontinued for 2-3 years and are impossible to find, I believe mine are the only set in the US.

We would replicate the headlight mold, improve the brackets and source the lights for a complete kit. The lighting on these headlights is phenomenal and is considerably better then stock. Not to mention they look BADASS at night, I cant tell you how many times I have gotten complimented on these headlights.

This thread is to gauge interest on how many people are interested in a set; if we gather enough interest I will give them to Ramy to start making the molds and begin the process. Its important to note that you will need to cut the frame and the front bumper to fit, and the wiring is extremely easy. Ill let Ramy chime in on ballpark pricing and how many people we need to get this going. This will be a great alternative to the $1500 re-amemiya and the $2000 rmagic lights as we were talking about pricing these under $1000, which is a steal for their light-output. You also do not have to worry about any clear lenses breaking like on the cwest and amemiya lights.

Feel free to ask any questions, I have had these for a few years. Here are a couple of pictures for those unfamiliar with them:

Post up a picture of the light output/cutoff aganist a wall at night.

post light output pic, and do you have pics of how much you have to cut and you did mention something about cutting the bumper also?

The frame and front bumper need to be cut, frame needs to be cut to fit the bracket that the lights are attached to. The kit would come with detailed instructions.

I am a busy with school this week but I will try to get an output shot sometime soon. Things to note my bulbs are NOT HID so light output will be different with this kit.

Um, isn't the clear cover over those lights for protection so the plastic breaks instead of your lights? Theres no protective cover that goes over the rotary run lights?

Since you guys are gonna be basically remaking these things could they possibly be made so you don't have to cut the frame?

I may be in for a set.

lt1_rx7 Nov 2, 2008 10:05 PM

I'm definitely interested. I've narrowed down to these lights or RE lights.

I want to think a set of these showed up in a FS thread a few months back from a now banned member...

+1. Was about to go about fabricating my own set, albeit with the lines 'straightened' out a bit - a little more modern look.

I am basing mine off the Hella 90mm lamps. Any idea if this kit will use the IPFs, or some other light? I really like the big low lamps, small high lamps look, but was going with the same-sized Hellas because 1) didn't want to cut the frame and 2) want to use a real headlamp, as opposed to a fog lamp. They do make a 120mm lamp, but it's really long/deep.

why dont you make it so you dont have to cut the front bumper, i think that and the frame cutting will be your biggest selling point.

mr.veilsidewankel Nov 3, 2008 08:09 AM

weeeery interested, but i allso support modding it so you dont have to cut the bumper

Yes, but on those headlights the lamps are exposed, compared to these where they are recessed in the housing so they are never exposed to any debris.

I would have to talk to Ramy about not cutting the frame or the front bumper, as he knows the guy who is doing the molds. This thread is to see what kind of interest we can get and what things you guys are looking for. So spread the word around and if we can get enough interest will begin working on getting these produced.

Their might be a small chance that we can modify the bracket so you dont have to cut the frame, but the way the bucket is designed and shaped it will be hard to not have to cut the front bumper. If we shortened the bucket so you wouldnt have to cut the front bumper than I think it would look "shrunk" or un-proportional. Like I said these are things Ramy and I will address once we can confirm enough interest.

That member was banned because he never shipped out any of the parts he sold, and if he did the forum members did not get them until a few months later. We will be using my personal headlights for the molds.

Not sure on all the specifics right now, Ramy will be sourcing the lights out. Once we can confirm enough interest Ramy and I will sit down and tell you exactly what you are getting. This is more of a "testing the waters" kind of thread.

I can understand not wanting to cut the frame, but cutting the front bumper is not a big deal. If you decide to change headlights any bodyshop can fill the front bumper with fiberglass to support your new headlights. Any bodyshop can fit these too and besides you will need to bring them to a bodyshop to get them painted.

calculon Nov 3, 2008 09:59 AM

VERY INTERESTED. You can count me as in for sure.

calculon Nov 3, 2008 10:01 AM

If you're taking design ideas to the fabricator. . .

An option to have the lights *easily* removed, leaving a large hole (as opposed to a small one) for a cold air intake option would be really appealing to me. I doubt I'm the only one.

Great idea! I thought about having that as an option. The way the bracket is made now you would just need to cut the bracket in half leaving the part that holds the main lamp. That would than allow you to run a cold intake through the front part. So even if its not an option from us, it would take very little effort to customize it for an intake. Besides I NEVER use the fog-lamps that are their now, so this would be a great alternative.

calculon Nov 3, 2008 11:02 AM

I imagined that it couldn't be too difficult, and like you said, if nothing else I can just do it on my own. Just figured I'd bring it up. Any idea on a timeframe? I understand that it'd be a major ballpark guess at this point, but I'd still appreciate some type of projection.

Thanks for doing this.

No problem, I have gotten so many PMs on these head-lights that I feel their should be enough interest for this. Ramy and I just kind of put this together at lunch, once we confirm enough interest will get to the major details. He said that the fabricator needs about a month for everything, Ramy said he has a source for lights and for someone to make the brackets. I can promise you these will be extremely well made, no expensed spared on any part; unlike some other kits. So that would mean my FD would be down for a month and it is my DD, and I need it to travel back home for December. I would send the fabricator my lights in January, a month or two from their and making sure everything fits properly should put us around March. Like I said thats major ballpark could be sooner or later and I still need to sit down with Ramy and discuss everything. Plus as most of you know, nothing ever goes as planned and im sure we will run into some problems along the way. This thread is just meant to test the market.

Haha, I don't blame you, these would really compliment a 99spec bumper. Like I said we will look into shortening the mold. No promises though.

I agree. I'm concerned about the frame, not the bumper. The bucket for these lights is supposed to go deeper into the bumper. That is part of the look of these lights the stretched bucket. You change that and you ruin the look. Any good body shop will have no problems trimming your bumper and making it look perfectly clean.

That would be awesome. An option similar to the RE-Amemiya induction kit for their headlights would be kickass.

hehe, do you have any pics of the lights with a 99 front?
if you supply theese with E or dot marked light units im sold:D

i kinda like that crosseyed retard look these lights have:D
;)

I'm very interested, I've always wanted to go this route and I too would be interested in giving my engine bay some fresh air. RE amemiya sleek vented lights would be my next choice if these don't materialize.

staticguitar313 Nov 4, 2008 05:44 AM

Hands down, the best looking non-pop-up headlights, period.
