Hi all.

I finally got my car running again with the adaptronic. I just installed my idle control valve and was messing with the settings when I noticed that the ac compressor was not turning on. It worked fine before with the power FC. Has anyone noticed this?

Run the Efan on a small seperate battery during WOT?

I noticed the megasquirt provides efan shut off at WOT. So I got to thinking about installing a capacitor in there so the fan continues to run after power has been cut.
Then I researched a bit, and found capacitors really run down in voltage as they run out of juice. So I figured using a miniature battery will work much better than a capacitor.

So I came up with using either a 5 pound, 8 amp/hour, 115 CCA battery or a lighter 3 pound 5 amp/hour battery. Both batteries are 12v AGM's and around $15-$20.

A 5 amp hour battery can power 12 amps for one minute before being considered fully discharged. Or run 24 amps for 30 seconds before being fully discharged. (I think)

The biggest things I'm worried about besides sizing the battery...

Is all of this worth it? Complexity, replacing of the battery, even power gain vs the weight of the battery?

Will I damage the alternator from possible repeated draining and charging of the little battery?

Any one think this is a good idea?

If you're considering having any work done on your rotary, I would highly recommend Kevin Landers of Rotary Resurrection. I know a lot of good things have been said about Kevin in the past, but here's my 2 cents.

I first met Kevin when I purchased a '90 FC Vert from him. I flew down to the Knoxville Airport and there was Kevin with the car in tow. He had rebuilt the engine and even repainted the car the original blaze red OEM color. For a mechanical guy, the paint job was pretty good. I drove the car home back to Cincinnati with no issues.

After owning the car for a little over a year, I got the bug to have a turbo swap performed in the car. Even though Kevin was almost five hours away from me, I never really considered anyone else to perform the swap.

One of the things I like about Kevin is the fact that he's a total straight shooter..........never sugarcoats anything which is refreshing. It took some getting used to, but his straight forward suggestions and opinions during the swap really improved the whole experience.

In order to save money, Kevin suggested we build the turbo II engine from parts he had as well as ones I bought used. Kevin was instrumental in helping me locate everything I needed.

I had purchased some used irons from another member but when I got them, they weren't quite up to Kevin's standards. So he recommended a shop up near Detroit to resurface them and they turned out great. Throughout the build of the turbo engine, Kevin emailed me countless photographs of his progress and attention to detail. During the whole process, we traded 100's of emails. His knowledge of RX7's is stellar.

What I also like about Kevin is that not only is he an excellent engine builder, but he knows every other part of the car. I had a problem with the used turbo transmission I acquired and Kevin was able to unstick the forks and totally clean up the insides of the tranny.

He performed the engine swap along with all the drive train components and his work was top notch. He painted the engine bay as well as the rotor housings and irons in a color scheme he recommended and it turned out sharp. He even painted some of the smaller items (cas cover, alternator, etc) to really dress up the engine bay and make it pop.

In summary I would recommend you consider Kevin Landers and Rotary Resurrection on any of the three generations of 7's for quality work at an extremely fair price.

I scored an old housing 13B with an aggressive streetport and a 50 DCO S/P Weber...
Car has full RB exhaust already...going to cut and weld up the 5/6 port tube from presilencer...and need to repolish the header. These are pics as I got parts. Have been working on the car/engine for about a week....so far so good.

ok, so im down a rotor on my 12a, and im thinking its actually going to be cheaper to put in a 13b for now (until i can rebuild my 12a). as bad as this may sound, there is an '84 gls-se with a good LOOKING 13b that i can get my hands on really cheap. im sure i can get the wiring harness and fuel pump off it, what all else would i need? do the motor mounts change?

and at some point, i want to go back to the 12a with a turbo setup, so anything i do id like to keep reversible... can i just put the 13b in there and use the 12a ignition system? will it work the same?
