Regarding the airpump for emissions, search gm air pump. It it an electric pump that some people have used sucessfuly to pass emissions without the stock pump in place.

Nice, so I assume you just remove the OE to get rid of the belt drag, and run the pump off of a 12 volt switch for emissions testing. I should have thought of that. It would simplify things a lot and not waste an output from the ECU. Thanks.
