Getting rid of my FC

And getting an FD instead.

I've always wanted an FD, pretty much ever since I was 15. And I got an offer for a trade yesterday that I couldn't pass up.

My FC isn't finished yet, still needs a driveshaft, shifter extension, the radiator/intercooler supports welded up, and a lot of small misc **** that adds up. This guy is trading me a 93 touring edition, bone stock except for a downpipe, and I'm keeping my KF's. Only downside is that it's an automatic, but it'll be getting converted when I go 1jz.

I'm slightly torn, because i have so much work in the FC, but I mean, it's an FD. And a clean one at that. FC's are a dime a dozen around here, I can buy a shell for $500 and put 5k into it and have another competitive drift car.

Here's the car I'm getting anyway.

Twin turbo REW, tan interior, 114k miles. Everything works. I guess if I don't like the way it drives I can sell it and build another FC or something.

I'm mainly concerned that I'm gonna blow another 6k in a motor swap and suspension, get it on the track, and hate it and wish id never gotten rid of my FC. Looking for some input from guys that have gone to FD's from FC's and had experience with it.

Mainly because I have a ton of custom work and chassis fab in this car, and I hate to see it all go to waste.

At the same time, it's a ******* FD. If I hate it, I can sell it, profit, and buy another FC back. Or hell probably buy my FC back. It's going to a buddy so I could probably buy it back for what I have in it.

Haha not in a million years would this thing get a KA.

I'm pretty set on a 1jz or 2jz, mainly because they're ******* awesome motors and I never got to finish my 1j swap in the FC.

I've also been toying around with the idea of an sr20, just to keep the factory weight distribution, but I'm not sure how the front sump pan is going to clear the subframe and JZ's just sound cooler/are more reliable/make more power/are more awesome

Yea leAve the rew then just focus on swapping it to a stick. I would trade looks to be a
Clean car plus the car will always be worth
More than the FC no matter what so re-sell wouldn't be an issue if for some reason u decide to part with it.

As much hate as this is going to get me, I've never seen an REW or an RE for that matter prove itself to be as reliable as a JZ

I went to FD from FC and back.

with FD you must own at least one other car. FD is good as a weekend car, track car, garage queen, parts hoarder money pit, etc..

I owned a FD for 4 years, daily drove it for 2. It was doable, but less fun than a FC. I like to drive my cars hard, but with FD is wasn't 100% comfortable with it. Maybe 90%. Don't give me wrong it's a great car, just not a good daily smasher as FC. I build my cars so I can enjoy them on daily basis, not only once a month or so..

the reliability wasn't different comparing to FC. The problem was, when I needed a part, it was hard to find and it was NEVER cheap. Every repair ends up taking a LONG time, I had to work slow and cautiously not to break anything...

To be able to enjoy the FD you must own a second car. Maybe a second FD...

FC is great, every repair including an engine swap can be done in a day or to as long as you have the parts ready.

This thing is never getting a v8. Not that I don't appreciate a well done LS swap, but an FD deserves more.

I agree with having a second car to smash on, because I'll never be comfortable taking it out on a track and tandeming in close quarters with walls around, but I'll probably take it to Stroud or Mineral Wells every once in a while. I've just always had the FD in the back of my mind as a dream car, and I'd like to build it as a street car primarily that could be tracked once in a while. So I'll probably end up getting another FC or s13 or something to smash up eventually

If you're swapping power plants in both cars then you're essentially trading all your work in for a better looking chassis. Doesn't seem worth it IMO especially being used as a race car.
