A Drifting Ape build thread.. Figured I'd make one of these

Basically bought it like this, and instantly thought I could drift :

Name: photo-4.jpg
Views: 208
Size: 43.7 KB

Name: cover.jpg
Views: 228
Size: 58.4 KB

got it for $2300 and thought I got a steal

Tein HE's Old as ****
Cusco F&R strut bars
SDJ header
2.5" RB exhaust
A "rebuilt" motor, that wasn't rebuilt.
KAAZ 1.5 way
Camber bar
DTSS elims
Koyorad(leaked)
SS clutch/brake lines

First thing I did was buy better fitting wheels, and lower coils:

Replaced my garbage fenders with some donors from the sexy Battle_Cat

Traded a duckbill wing for a full GP kit, again, instantly thought I could drift because of it:

FINALLY ditched my $200 a week job, and got picked up by NRG for a sales position, and rocked a sticker in appreciation... for like a week.

Owe a TON to this dude Radio_X7, basically showed me the ins & outs of the chassis.

Purchased:

Replica D-max hood
Cusco safety 21 5 point bolt in.

After 3 crashes, and a **** load of kicking the car because of it's tendency to fail, I Figured I would start prepping for paint, only because people would not shut the HELL UP about it. Honestly the biggest mistake I've ever made, and wish I had never painted it.

Aaaaaaaand here's where I totally f*cked up. Cheaped out, and got a budget *** paint job. Basically ruined the car for me. Somehow found the energy to keep trying though haha

So after a few more car accidents, I picked up another GP sports kit, and once again immediately assumed I was a drift master.

The list of mods as of now(no pictures) is

PBM coilovers
1.75" extended ball joints
abercrombie extended tie rod ends
abercrombie "wrack" spacers haha
2.5" straight pipe
Cusco safety 21 bolt in
Cusco F&R strut bars
Autozone intake
Poly transmission mounts

Exterior:
Dmax rep hood
GP rep kit
17x9.5 -5 MB battles front
17x9.75 -5 XXR 535s rear

And the whole reason I started this thread is my upcoming mods:

Purchased: S5 jspec motor - Rebuilt/Huge street port/ RA classic seals
Purchased: 750cc injectors
Purchased: Walbro
Purchased: Rebuilt stock turbo
RTEK 1.7 soon
Pinion snubber & solid sub frame mounts

Near future:

Knuckles
Cage
Tubs
Full Tii drive train
Hydro E-brake(much controversy, many argue, wow)

I plan on running Top Drift in 2015, so this is basically the beginning of that build

Hopefully will be updating in about 2-3 weeks with major stuff

Tell me about it man

Totally f*cking regret painting it. Each dent/scratch had its own story. I honestly loved my car back then, still trying to rekindle what we had hahaha.

Sometime down the line though(after swap, cage etc.) I plan on buying mismatched stuff again. Sorta like a reverse restoration haha

um why not just drive it a bunch then not paint the new body panels after you wreck it a bunch?

I mean, that's pretty exactly what's going to happen haha. I didn't mean, that I was going to take perfectly good matching panels off to replace them with shitty ones

There will definitely be crashing involved

Legit! Always good to start with a rebuild when doing a TII swap.

Does your wheels fit fine under stock front fenders with 9.5 width and 1.75" extended balljoints? How much camber you need to run to fit them?

Oh hell no haha. I had to pull, cut, and extend the stock fenders to get them to fit.

Got the solid sub frame, and rear diff mounts in.

Car still wheel hops something fierce, so I also Welded the living **** out of a stock front diff mount, and am going to be throwing that in in the next week or so.

ALSO!

Motor is built, and enroute to me, from VA. I have 99% of the swap.

Only parts I need now are

RTEK 1.7 Buddy has one for me
Front cover DK has one for me
Oil pan DK has one for me
Boost gauge
Wideband

Should be boosted by the end of the month, unless court(7/7/2014) doesn't go as planned.

Mine would wheel hop like a bitch till I put in some AWR spherical trailing arm bearings, guess the 24-25 year old rubber was done.

So I still need to tap the front cover for the oil return, somehow my tii block came with an NA front cover?

Also need:
Rtek
Oil pan
Port wastegate
Water pump
Tap water pump housing(also NA?)
Couplers

Pretty close

Also finally picked up the block

Test fitted my overfenders. Got them from Smokie for a ****** STEAL. SHould have been buying swap parts, but I couldn't pass up a deal

The car wasn't able to settle into my regular height because the old metal fender was digging into the tire. Should be another .5" lower.
