Buckey's FD Build - RX7 Factory
#135
Not sure if I’ll revive this thread after this post but for the people who were following the builds a few years back I ended up closing my shop and selling off my blister car letting it go entirely for a flat $6k the day my dad had a stroke. The same week I let my red FD go also. I wasn’t in a great spot financially and had no idea what was to come other than knowing I had to get money to take care of any expenses that may come up for him. A good friend out of state wired the money same day to purchase the car. It stayed with me for a week or two until he made arrangements to have it transported from Vegas to AZ. My friend unfortunately took his life at some point shortly after and the car got sold again. I tried purchasing it back several times over the years each time at a much higher price despite each time the car missing more and more parts..
About a year or so ago an opportunity presented itself for me to pick up the red FD in unknown shape with a mystery engine. Missing a lot of parts but as to be expected…. After driving out to see it for the first time in years I was pretty bummed to see it with the dash out and heater core box removed for the shop it was sitting at was supposed to only be tossing this engine into the car but as you could imagine I was pretty overwhelmed with emotions seeing it after so long… Knew it was mostly all there so loaded it up and brought it back to Vegas.
After about 10 months locating parts that were missing and going through everything I started putting miles on it and getting the bugs worked out.
My daughter was more amped than I was to go on the first ride LOL
Fast forward to now and it’s fully dialed, fresh off an event, and although she’s a little more battled looking than before it’s almost as good as ever. It’s been a fun time spending it with my kid in the garage showing her how things work and sharing the experience building it. She was too young to remember it at the shop but she remembers the purple BN FD LOL
My old man made a solid recovery and although I had to let the BN car go I’m glad he got to see it go back together. Whenever I was doubting myself from time taking its toll and me forgetting certain things he would keep me motivated to see it through.
Looking back I can’t believe I cut up the CYM car… In hindsight I should have transferred all the parts from this one over to it, and sold it off to preserve a rare chassis but I got lost in needing to accomplish a goal I set out to meet. In the end I saw it through just not with that chassis, how I’d envisioned it.
I’m not sure what the future has in store but Im pretty certain at this point in my life my red FD will never be a drift car. The idea of drifting an FD was cool back when I had a career and facility to see it as a possibility but that’s long gone. With my dad aging and my family I don’t have as much time as I once had. However I will be updating my other thread sparingly focusing on my old FC moving forward. Hoping to get that out to some events for fun sometime…Maybe shake half a decade of rust off….

Took the week off work to focus on cleaning out the trash in the car. Pretty wild how it got destroyed for clout… Im not really sure what’s going on with the wannabe dash fabrication or goofy livery while not having one paid product provided but that must be the modern day dream people are chasing on the internet these days….
picked up a couple things for it will be updating this pretty frequently

i get it like we all start somewhere but he definitely needed guidance. For me it was him bad mouthing me and my paint work; just to get the car back and realize everything he did… including brushing on latex house paint… total imbecile lol

plugging away part by part. Scooped this MFR dry sump setup so hopefully my car will make it more than 4 laps without boiling over every fluid in existence.
need to find FD upper intake with throttle body, passenger (hot side) steel engine mount, a good trans or a used gforce (but I’d want the full kit ready to go not just box) not that 80’s side shift BS.
hit me up if you have any of these things that aren’t a million dollars
