I've been using SEM paint only, based on reviews that I've seen and positive comparisons to Dupli-color and other rattlecans.

I've been very impressed with SEM, but I can't speak to specific personal experience with other brands.

My 85 GSL interior had been painted by a PO--stereo and shifter bezel, rear compartment plastic trim--and it frankly looked like crap. I don't know if that was due to the paint or the painter, but I did my research to find what was most highly recommended, and it seemed like SEM.

They sell SEM soap, plastic prep and "sand-free" products as well, all of which I purchased and have been using.

I'm converting the interior from grey/dark-grey to black and frankly I've been very pleased with how the plastic trim turned out.

Another thread you should look at is:
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ior+back+black

The poster there used Dupli-Color products and looks to have had very positive results.

I confess that I adopted the use of the clear dupli-color enamel as a final coat in my efforts as well, and am quite pleased with the results.

I'm probably going the other direction from most people, but i have an '86 with red interior, and i'm keeping it red. I don't know what to do about it since it's faded, and i want it the stock color. What should i use/do?

My father has an 85 GSLSE FB. He has been restoring piece by piece, the RED interior on his car, if it is done right, it looks amazing. SEM has a red that is spot on color for color with Mazda's Red.

Check them out. Great stuff.

SEM is a great brand and the only product I'd use for spraying my interior (and I've tried a bunch of different ones).

Same principles still apply though - wash it thoroughly!
Warm water and basic dish soap (no waxes, or extra chemicals)
Wipe down with a non-flammable degreaser
Use a tack cloth to get all the hairs/fuzz off

Then mask, mask, mask!!

They also sell it by the quart I believe and if memory serves me correctly you can tent that to get your desired color. The only difficulty is you have to spray it with a spray gun which can get a bit tricky if the interior is still in the car. Does save some money though.

Any idea which red it is? I know they make like 3 or 4 that look very close.

Best advice...take a piece of the interior that is LEAST faded, ie. lower plastic trim from the footwell area, and match it yourself to one of the few. I will be in Milwaukee at my parents this weekend, I'll let you know. I know he still has some.
