Toronto Motorsports Park GT Superseries Race October 5th
Just thought I would remind you guys that we are running the second Champion Motor Oil/Toronto Motorsports Park GT Superseries Race this weekend on October 5th. There will be 3 races held and open lapping in amongst the races. Right now, we have a grid of over 20 cars with a wide variety of makes represented. I will be running the #23 RX7 with Toronto Star Wheels Section Columnist Gary Grant driving. I may pop into it for a race to see how its going, but Gary is the planned driver. We are also going to have everything from NASCAR Stock cars to Trans Am cars to little AWD 323's running. Its going to be very relaxed, tons of fun and there are even mutterings that a Motoring 2014 camera crew will be there.
So, if you are free that day, come on out and lap with us while we are getting prepared and then watch the races. Toronto Motorsports Park will be adding a few other things like a tuner challenge, top speed runs down the drag strip and others, so it will be a fun day all around.
Cheer on the only rotary in the field. I hope to see you there.
Regards,
Eric

Bump this to the top. It seems like the grid for this race keeps getting better. There are over 24 cars entered already and 2 of them are NASCAR Canada cars. There is going to be TV, newspapers and only 1 little rotary and we need your support. C'mon out and say hi!

It was an okay day. Again, it was very strange to watch someone else drive my cars, but I did put in a few laps in the morning lapping session and the new gearbox with lower ratios and the new Toy 888's made the car really well suited to TMP. I crossed my fingers and waited for the drivers to race the car.
First race was interesting. The driver, Toronto Star Wheels Section writer Gary Grant had to come to grips with racing an RX7 for the first time. The track was very cold and guys were spinning out all over the place and Gary did the same. He went around 3 times in the first race. It should be exciting to see the various angles of the adventure, as Gary had 4 in-car cameras showing front, back, inside and reverse. All in all I was happy to see it make it back in one piece.
Second race was the same, but this time Gary buckled down more and had a very good consistent race. He was right up with the pack and actually had to pass some cars that were quicker than him in the first race. Things went well until the last half of the last lap when he spun in Turn 2 and then later in the lap understeered straight off of the left hander after the little chicane (I have no idea what number turn that is) and destroyed my Anthony Woodford Racing nose piece. The biggest piece left was about 8 inches long.
For the final race, we patched things up and I put Evan Groenke into the car. I was going to do the third race myself, but at the last minute I decided that it was silly to do as I still had to take the car home after the race, unload, shower, pack and then drive to Montreal. I just didn't want to kill myself for 20 minutes of fun, besides I was feeling all cold and grumpy after having the nose ripped off. Evan did well and stayed with the pack and came to grips better with the car than he had previously and did okay.
Finally, a picture of what the car did best on the day.

Came late, saw the last race with the broken spitter FC. The couger caught up. During lapping snap the alternator belt, which sucked. Sacrifice my shoe lace and got it back to my cousin house in Hamilton, no way it make it back to Toronto. Any how, replace the belt and back on the road.

Man, you should have come over and introduced yourself. I have all the spare belts with me. We could have cobbled something up to get you home. The Cougar was wounded as well. Its alternator wasn't charging so it was only operating on about half power.
Anyways, hope you enjoyed yourself.

Write up on the event by Gary Grant, Toronto Star Wheels Section writer. Just a few points of clarification, Evan Groenke managed to get down to a 1:28.1 in the 3rd race. The track was supe3r cold and nobody had traction. The fastest I have ever gone at TMP was a 1:19.4. Needless to say, Gary wasn't anywhere near the cars capabilities on this day. It was fun though, watching a guy run his first race.
Now the writeup;
