Returning to Rotaries after 15 Years

How is it going everyone. I am here to re introduce myself after a long 15 years. I used to have a S5 T2 about 15 years ago and a FD about 6 years ago. I am a automotive technician by trade and worked on Audi's and Porsche's for the last 10 years. I used to be very active when soul assassin was around and still remember his T51 FC.

Since automotive is my career and hobby it was very tough to separate the two. I miss having a rotary very much and finally made the decision that from here on i will never turn my back on rotaries ever again. I am now running independent fixing European vehicles and always thought my money was better spent towards my career.

The joy i got out of a rotary, i could not find even driving 500hp 911 Turbos, E90 M3, B8 S4, C63 AMG. Maybe its a sentimental attachment. I still plan on having a few modified European vehicles but a rotary is truly in it's own league. I don't care about the new GTR, or R34 GTR.

When i was younger i would find it odd when older fellows would rock a 1st gen RX7 and wonder why so, now i realize why so. I will be that older guy rocking a 2nd or 3rd gen rx7. RX7 is definitely where my passion lies and it took a very long time to take that thought seriously and move forward with it. Great to be back on the board!

I'd sell all this stuff and move into pistons engines but my Wallet would get fat and burst..It's not used to having money in it!
SO I remain a Rotary guy at heart..and broke.

Welcome back..Can I borrow a dollar for coffee?..lol!

Soul Assassin. Now that is going back a long time. I've had an FC for 20 years. You would think its about time to move on. Welcome back.

I normally say, run run far away . But I totally know what you are talking about.

These buzzing machines have something to them.

for old times:

if you look at the big picture it is much cheaper to build a strong rotary with all the new aftermarket parts that will make high power then a big build piston engine. you blow a rotor and housing you need a rotor and housing. you blow a pistion or rod you need a whole block and 8 other pistons and rods, maybe valve and head work lol. 5k vs 10-15k depending on the engine. I have seen some people come back from v8 back to rotary.

I was thinking about incorporating JDM vehicles into my business, but i realized if i do that i would be taking my attention away from rotary. I have enough euros to work on, i told myself if i can focus on just 1 JDM car it would definitely have to be rotaries which will keep it as a hobby, i'm 34 now and will keep rotaries in my life forever. I shouldn't of left them in the first place.

Welcome back. Question is, do you have a rotary car back in your life now or are you still looking?

I am probably going to settle with either a FD or S5 T2, and go from there.

Welcome back .... none of us can get away ...... it's the rotary vortex.

Get a FC. After going spirited driving, I'll come out sweating, white knuckles, and aged by 6.5 yrs.

I was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, anyone still out there from this forum? is freddy still doing his thing? I been in Calgary, AB since 2006, no emission laws here. I worked at rx7 specialties when i first got here for a few months. I think it is time i go meet madmax as he also is a long time member on here. It is time to reconnect with the rotary world. God dam is it ever nice to be back. Cannot wait to find a FC most likely.

I think its maxthe7man who hes talking about. He use to post alot on teamfc3s after the little issue on this forum in 05ish .

Then came back : ( his current 20b build below)

https://www.rx7club.com/build-thread...0b-fc-1059412/

but there was a "rotary builder" debate between a few members in the Canadian forum, so he hasnt posted again since spring I believe. A shame as both members have great rotary experience to share.

Max isn't actually in Calgary, but he's close, down around Black Diamond, or at least he was when I got some dtss eliminators from him about 9 years ago - he pressed them into my hubs for me also. Good guy, very knowledgeable.
