Well, I'm not sure if it differs from province to province. But here's what I had to go through (I bought my car from Nova Scotia, registered it in Ontario).

You will need the ownership of the vehicle.
You will need a Bill of Sale.
You will need to get liability insurance.
You will need to get a temporary licence plate.
Now you can drive the car to get it e-tested and safety certified.
Bring those documents back to the Ministry of Transportation, fill out a registration form, and get your real licence plate & sticker.
Now you can get full insurance coverage, if you like.

Somewhere in between, you will be paying for:
insurance
temporary licence plate
e-test, safety
Taxes (based on Bill Of Sale)
Registration Fee for the plate and sticker

When I bought a Quebec car and registered it in Ontario, I did it like this: After agreeing to buy the car, I went to the Societe De L'Assurance Automobile de Quebec with the car owner to transfer ownership. I then told the agent that I wasn't registering the car in Quebec. She charged me $8 for a transit slip (Allowing me to drive the car for 3 days), but didn't chage me the tax on the vehicle's value. I then went to Ontario and had the car inspected and e-tested. Once I had a pass on both of those, I went to the MTO with the test results, my licence, the proof of sale and the papers from the Quebec Lisencing agency. They charged me the tax and gave me the lisence plates. Easy! Now, this was a while ago, but I don't imagine it has changed a lot. Take a look on the MTO page: http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/dan...e/rgoutcan.htm As well as the SAAC page:http://www.saaq.gouv.qc.ca/en/vehicl...ion/index.html Giving them a call will help too! Good luck Dave!

you can drive the car with french plates but if you are buying the truck then you will have to as said above
1. purchase insurance
2. purchase a temp plate
3. get an etest and safety
4. go to the mto and get a UVIP and then with a bill of sale from the seller you will have to pay taxes and fees for the plates.

do they have a Used Vehicle info package in Quebec that you purchase?..Because Isn't the Seller as well as the "new owner" supposed to Sign the last page of that Document?

I was told (by a friend) that the UVIP was an Ontario only thing. He could be wrong.
I had to pay for a UVIP when I registered my car in ON because the car originally came from ON (that's right, it went to NS and came back!). They didn't need the seller's signature, they only needed that I pay for the UVIP. Something like $25..

yeah pretty much that is how it works that if you buy a vehicle privately then you are required to buy a UVIP no matter where it came from and the UVIP has the value of the vehicle to assess the taxes that you will be required to pay on the vehicle, hell you can sign the sellers name on the UVIP and just not tell them, I've done it a couple of times

Don't forget that in Quebec these two things are true:

a) We don't have emissions testing, so it's sometimes harder to get used Quebec vehicles to pass emissions because we either don't *know* there's a problem with our emissions controls, or we don't *care* that there is.

b) If you safety a car once, and don't take it off the road for more than a year, you never have to safety it again. I'm pretty sure this is the same in Ontario, but again it means that any safety concerns with the vehicle might not have been addressed because the person didn't have reason to address them or didn't know they were there.

Assuming you can get it past the safety and the sniffer, the rest should be pretty simple. I won't re-hash it since it seems to have been all covered above.

Well thanks For everything Guys...I think I've got the drift on this Topic now.The Reason I want a Truck is to be able to Pick up Parts!,and as far as the Mechanics of the Vehicle, well I did work in a garage at some point in my "illustrious career",and I know my way around an engine bay.Etc, well enough,so that is a good thing.I don't drive anything that "may have issues".It's either parked or Fixed,..simple as that...Cheers Guys..Dave/STYX!~
