My 83 GSL
I've been on this forum for quite a few years now. I've always tried to help out others to the best of my knowledge and have asked others for their help aswell. This forum has been awesome for me. I've never really posted progress of my car till now...
So, I got my dream car May 20th, 2006. It was a completely stock 1983 Mazda Rx7 GSL. It's not stock anymore, but it's just as nice as it was if not nicer. I've been putting it together how i've always wanted ever since. I like things clean and simple..
First, I want to thank all the people that have helped me along the way. You know who you are and I thank all you first gen members .
The car I'm building up:

F1 racing clutch kit: 6 puck sprung disc, heavy duty pp, T/O bearing, pilot bearing
T2 transmission
Custom driveshaft
Original LSD rear end
New yoke for T2 transmission
ECU:

2.5" intercooler pipe
INTAKE:
S5 Turbo LIM (had to port match for 5th and 6 ports)

Tokico blues in rear
Stock sway bars (for now)
Mazdatrix strut bar
New mazda factory lower control arms

Welcome to the turbo 1st gen club dude, you'll never stop smiling from here onwards.
I like the wheels....
Clean install anyways, although to make it that little bit cleaner if you can afford one get a Greddy induction pipe for the throttle body then you have a lot cleaner route.
Looking forward to more updates....

I do want to get the greddy elbow you're talking about. For now to get the car on the road i'll use what I got. I'll get the greddy elbow later on though.

Question regarding your intercooler. Is that the CX Racing one? Do you think the 27x12x3 version would fit in the same position you have yours? I need one with 3" inlet/outlet, which is available in the slightly larger size, so I'm wondering if I should go for it.
Your wheels are lovely, by the way.

Thanks doodie007!
Got my custom driveshaft done!
I have a aftermarket driveshaft from mazdatrix with replacable u joints. The shaft is for 83-85 cars. So, I called Dave at Mazdatrix and told him I had a t2 transmission and needed a yolk for it. He got me just what I needed. A brand new yoke in 2 days.
So, all I did was take my driveshaft and new yoke to dans driveline shop, had them swap the yokes (used old ujoint since it was only a year old and driveline shop said it was perfectly fine). They did that in 5 minutes for $15. Also relubed both front and rear ujoints.
So instead of spending $300 on a totally custom driveshaft, I spent $60 total to do the same thing . Yes, it fits perfectly in the car!
I wouldn't have known to go this route if bad 83 hadn't posted information about swapping just the yokes. Thanks again bad 83!
New yoke installed
My drivetrain is complete and ready now!!

Welcome to the club.
I do think your turbo is a bit small though and you will want more power soon.
I have a brand new (300 miles) custom T04 60-1 that was build by BNR as his stage 4 with a T04 hotside, external wastegate, oil and water etc. Turbo was putting down 360whp at 14 psi with minimal lag. I went GT35R to break the 400whp number and the turbo is no longer needed. I don't want it to go to waste and I can give it to you for next to nothing.

I should've clarified. I know the center section is T3/T4. I know the compressor housing is a TO4. I'm not exactly sure what the exact size of the turbo that makes this??? I'm told this will have all the power I will want. Like an isurance policy. What you want, but has plenty more if you need it...
I'm looking for 250 rwhp on this setup. With a later build and same turbo hopefully 350rwhp on next motor.. If I end up needing it, I'll let you know. Don't think I will though.
Pm user C. Ludwig. He went out of his way and helped me out. I got my haltech through him. He knows his stuff and actually used to work with microtechs, but now prefers haltech. He'll help you out with what setup you have. Very cool guy!

Dude!! Glad to hear your almost done. Just a piece of advice on your engine. If you are running 9.4 compression with stock Mazda apex seals, DO NOT run over 10 psi. PLEASE go and get you a set of teflon coolant seals and a set of chryoed Atkins 2 piece apex seals. I have ran upwards of 20 psi on mine without a problem. I have sworn that if I get my hands on another set of S5 9.7 rotors, I'll tear my engine down in a heatbeat to put them in!
BTW, I love the WEDs

Thanks guys!!
I'll definitely take the advice. haha I expect the motor to last a bit, but my next motor i'll plan a little more. I'll know the exact limit of the motor.
Haha Thanks man!!! Me too! The thing is I don't know what kind of seals are in the motor. I know it was built by a very reptuable engine builder. I bought the motor cause the compression on it was awesome. It's been a VERY strong motor for me the past few years naturally aspirated..
I fear that even though the motor has great compression and power, it might be one of those tear downs where to just replace some seals, I would need to replace a housing or iron or something worn lol. I'm going to run it as is, not go over 10 psi and see how long it last. I already made a limit of 12 psi before you told me that. I'll make it 10 though now .
I'll take note of that and make sure for the next motor to get those seals!
Thanks man!
