Update
Got all the parts for the engine rebuild, still unsure about if to go turbo or na, but have NA rotors incase
Using RA Super Seals and mazda springs, side seals and corner seals, most other seals are Atkins even though they messed up a couple orders :/
Got the t3 coilover kit and welding up the struts, shown here are blown koni reds. I'll be using new koni yellows
Installed a pair of leather Recaro seats

Got some banged up 18's to roll the car around on I between working on it. These are 18x9 +40 with a 1.25" spacer so about a ~ +3ET
I've been watching some 17x9.5 0 offset, but rethinking all his seeing how the 18's fit... The front swallowed the 18's as well but until the coilovers are done and engine in, I'll be able then to see how she sits and get wheels. But coming along nice... Just need more time to work on the car now

Cleaned up and painted he engine bay and inner fenders/chassis, scrubbed it all down with wire brush, wire wheel, 3m scotch pads etc and used rust remover/primer and then painted with rustoleum rust preventer/primer and rubberized undercoat in some places. Plan on having a painter do this all professionally, but with our monsoon like rain season coming. I wanted a oil peace of mind for the months it'll be in the garage.
As you can guess I am also undecided about the widebody or if to remove haha. Ah well this is why these are project cars and take years to complete huh
One of the previous owners sent me pics of the car when they owned it in the 80's
This may have something to do with me being partial to the widebody again. Makes me even like red :p

Testing 1,2,3!
Ok well here are some updates. After months of indecision, I finally decided to go turbo and keep the Mariah.
Finished the assembly of the short block today and I'm very happy with how everything came out.
13b series 5 turbo II
Street ported & match ported intake/exhaust
OJ Perf 2mm Apex Super Seals
Mazda apex springs
Atkins solid corner seals
Mazda corner springs
Mazda side seals and springs
Atkins water seals
Viton oil control rings
New Mazda oil rings
Series 8 stationary gears and bearings
Modified oil system (90 psi)
New Mazda seals and gasket kit, thermo pellet etc
New Atkins water pump
Other than that I got a borg warner s360 (177280) with the .88 back end. Seen so many here recommend this turbo to others looking for a cheap quick(ish) response 300-350whp setup
I also got one of those J2 eBay manifolds that looks like the HKS kit, well see how it holds up, they say it's 5mm thick steel so it may stand a chance.
Have a E6k, 850's & 1600's. Now deciding on fuel system, if to go intank surge/baffle/pump or external surge/pump. Thinking internal is the way as I need to have the the tank opened to clean it etc.
I am also stuck on where to put the inter cooler and oil cooler(s).. Been thinking of going twin parallel oil coolers in the Mariah side air dams and intercooler up front in the main big air dam rather than intercooler 3" in front radiator and oil cooler below. And I wanna run AC!
Car is heading down by the rota mechanic next week. Install engine, haltech etc and wanna start by montht end for the latest fingers crossed.

Thanks for the compliments and encouragement. Mic appreciated. Cleaned up the intake yesterday and added the block off plates. Still need to get new fuel rails etc. Had every intention if painting the intake manis. But after seeing them cleaned up think I may just leave em like this while mocking up etc. I also did the throttle body mod, now making the bracket for the haltech tps. Will be mounting where the old FC one did. Other than that just some WD40 and a wire wheel.

Damn! This just reminds me that I have a ton of wire brushing, wire wheeling and polishing to get done on my manifolds, throttlebody, alternator and other miscellaneous pieces that I've been putting off for ages.

Thanks! Yes I have to go another round with the wire wheel and some aluminum polish tomorrow.
Got some more goodies, took some pics of the J2 Engineering Turbo manifold. This thing is about 10lbs and is made of 5mm thick steel.. Weld quality is fantastic, very very well made. Only complaint is that the waste gate flange wasn't planed and is slightly warped (small easy fix) and the turbo flange wasn't perfectly centered. But se grinding will fix easily. All and all I am very happy. Came with new gaskets, mounting hardware, wastegate extension 44-40mm pipe and t3 to t4 adapter I'll be selling.

Been a while since my last update.
Finally got the engine in the car and almost ready to startup. We have to make the down pipe, fab up a couple fuel lines, oil feed for the turbo, install thermostat, rad hoses and making some new oil cooler lines.
Have lots of cleaning up to do, but getting there
Turbo down pipe is going to be a tight fit
Hoping to finish off all the small stuff this week and hoping to start up next weekend
Also got my new wheels.
17x8.5 +15, 17x10 +20 - 5x114/5x100
As I have 82 GSL axles, that are 4x108 disc brakes and small hubs I'll drill them to 5x100, fronts are 2nd gen t2 4 piston calipers and discs. Fits perfect in front with the Mariah widebody.
Lots more to come soon.

Some updates. Have not been to see the car in a couple weeks, been busy with work and just having a few with the crew..
Here are the last pics from when I went up and some updates and parts etc
Installed the gear box, turned out I had a s4 gearbox... (Shrugs) used the fb cross member and couple ford pickup mounts. Bolted in without a problem. Almost like it was made for it.
We had shortened the shifter linkage and housing, lined up perfect.
I had bought a short shifter kit (won't mention brand) and personally didn't like the feel at all, so got a new OEM shifter kit and like how it feels. So we'll see.. I'm using a ACT clutch kit, think a stage 3 sprung hub.
I'm running a front mount oil cooler so here is a shot showing the lines going around the radiator and below it
Shot from top, rad out. Rad in, no room!! Got a flex a lite 16" fan and it barely fits!!

Another shot showing space. Whew. The down pipe which is being welded up (or is prob done hopefully) barely passes the power steering box, remember this is a RHD
I'm running a HKS SSQ4, tial 44 mvr for pressure relief and control. Not sure in boost controller yet. Thinking about the innovative boost/air fuel gauge/controller... But just on the waste gate 10lb spring for now/break in.
Onto my gas tank probs. made a post about it. But long story short, my tank was bad, sent to friend to fix, he made it worse!!
Did some research and came up with getting a 17gallon RCI aluminum tank which measures 30x17x7 inches.. Here it is side by side the stock one.
I'm running a Aeromotive stealth intank with sump kit, so I'm welding up the holes that RCI made and removing the filler neck hardware etc. And drilling my own holes for the fuel pump, new rx7 level sensor, and weld I a filler neck so I can use the stock filler etc.

Fuel cell is in and fits like a glove. Very happy. Will take pics of it out when I remove it to paint. Very happy with the result.
Also got the wiring done for the car, all lights and accessories working great!! Lots of small things still to do. More pics to come next week. I was filthy when I finished working on the car today and didn't take any more pics.
